So, i've just been clearing out some space on our server and noticed we had lots of users (10-20) in the c:/users folders, This doesn't make sense to me because the only user logged into our server is the local administrator... and for some reason the C drive has aquired user accounts from active directory?

Going to talk to our support tomorrow, but just wondering if anyone experienced this before or know what might be causing this?

Thanks,,

EDIT:

its an RM CC4 network.

im not sure? Just googled what a terminal server is, and i think it could be one because its a virtual?

Its a virtual server, hosted on VMware. Windows server 2008 R2.

We just use windows RDP to connect...

Unlikely.

We also had a similar issue with our CC3 servers. I can't remember what caused it though.

I seem to remember something about certain file operations causing this - maybe the "compress to save disk space" one. If students run this on their files it puts their details in users on the server

Have the same here on the DC.

Have denied everyone permission apart from my account access to the server both in the remote desktop settings and GPO. First thing i did when building the network.

It is a file server for admin as well as a DC and its only admin names in the C drive.

Off topic but is someone a Runescape player, Zezima?

Ive just looked at the users folder again, and noticed that all the profiles are from the "TeachingStaff" template and they all have security settings which only allows the user of that folder is have full control... (normal so far...)

Whats strange is that there is one folder of a past student in there :S... and this one is not protected... when you go to the security Tab in properties, it has instead tried to give full control to a user with just a load of numbers..

"S-1-5-21-1057456021-913282429-3328907461-2520"

That's a SID - the user name must have been deleted, but the ID remains. Every time you create a user a unique ID is created, that's what you're seeing.
