Arthur Posted February 12, 2015 Posted February 12, 2015 Guy Ritchie's new movie. In the early 1960s, CIA agent Napoleon Solo and KGB operative Illya Kuryakin participate in a joint mission against a mysterious criminal organization, which is working to proliferate nuclear weapons. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7U5v1kkZfdw
unixman_again Posted February 12, 2015 Posted February 12, 2015 Only one question, Why? The original series was very much of it's time and worked well. This new version looks terrible. I watched most of the orginals last year, and they do not need a remake. 1
MrMat Posted February 13, 2015 Posted February 13, 2015 Guy Ritchie's new movie. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7U5v1kkZfdw I've no idea re: the originals so quite interested in this. Looks like it could be good fun.
sparkeh Posted February 13, 2015 Posted February 13, 2015 Oh what a shame. Trailer indicates its another great old series ruined by a remake
Griff Posted February 13, 2015 Posted February 13, 2015 Interesting, I remember watching the originals as a kid they were awesome. This looks very James Bondish maybe they are lining him up for it...
witch Posted February 13, 2015 Posted February 13, 2015 When I was a child you either loved Napoleon Solo or Ilya Kuriakin. I was an Ilya girl We watched it every week and I remember it being very good i was very young though
ICTDirect_Dave Posted February 13, 2015 Posted February 13, 2015 (edited) I used to love the sunday morning re-runs of the original when I was little. I see no harm in a movie remake though, this actually looks pretty good. It would be a shame if they didn't get Ilya to guest star in some way or other though. I'm sure NCIS could spare him for a bit And Robert Vaughan for that matter, even if only briefly. Edited February 13, 2015 by ICTDirect_Dave
unixman_again Posted February 13, 2015 Posted February 13, 2015 From watching the trailer, and reading an U.N.C.L.E fan forum last night, the general feeling is the film should be called The Men from C.I.A.
LeMarchand Posted February 13, 2015 Posted February 13, 2015 When I was a child you either loved Napoleon Solo or Ilya Kuriakin. I was an Ilya girl We watched it every week and I remember it being very good Did you go to school with Kim Newman? In his "choose your own adventure" novel "Life's Lottery", that's one of the choices. A bit of an U.N.C.L.E. fan - I quite often stick one of these with my name on in my I.D. holder (and have yet to be called on it): Was really looking forward to this, but the trailer didn't impress. It looked OK, but didn't scream "U.N.C.L.E." to me. I suspect that it might just be one of those perfectly enjoyable films that didn't really need to use the name of an existing property, thus preventing a "proper" version being made. Plus: WHERE WAS THE THEME TUNE?
LeMarchand Posted June 12, 2015 Posted June 12, 2015 New trailer: Increasingly worried by Guy Ritchie's seeming disdain for the original in various interviews. Film looks OK, but not what I was hoping for.
