Koocha Posted February 12, 2015 Posted February 12, 2015 Hi We're looking at Chromebooks but would ideally like a way to view (not necessarily modify) .flipchart files. I've had a look - there's SMART Notebook express for SMART - is there anything for Promethean out there? Thanks Tim
phillyrovers Posted February 12, 2015 Posted February 12, 2015 Hi Koocha, We do not have a web viewer at the moment, but I will raise this with our development team to be considered for a future update. There are a couple of possibilities however that you could use (this would depend on whether your teachers or students will be getting Chromebooks, or all). If you go to http://www.classflow.com sign up for a free account you can import .flipcharts and then show the lesson via Classflow on your browser. If your students have got Chromebooks you can "push" cards to them to view and annotate on thier won machines and send back to you. There are other things that ClassFlow can do as well but in a basic viewing flipchart online this may be the option. You will have to upload your flipcharts via a windows based machine however as Chromebooks do not have a true file structure. Thank you
kcalderw Posted September 2, 2015 Posted September 2, 2015 Will there ever be a time when annotation will work with Chromebooks? Would love to put Chromebases or Chromeboxes in classrooms but have no way (As of yet) to still allow teachers to write on the board.l
phillyrovers Posted September 2, 2015 Posted September 2, 2015 Hi Strryker412, Annotations with Chromebook is a very open statement. Annotations work perfectly with Chromebooks if you have the correct hardware. An example is the Promethean ActivPanel Touch, which lists Chromebook in its supported operating systems, which when used with online annotation software, such as ClassFlow, allows full annotations. This works because the ActivPanel Touch does not require the Promethean ActivDriver to function, it uses standard HID device drivers. Older Promethean boards require an ActivDriver to function and are not true HID Plug and Play devices (as they require a driver to work) as Chrome do not allow drivers to be installed onto the OS there is no way to get the older boards functioning through a Chrome OS. So whilst it might not be possible with the older boards, moving forward, it could well be that our newer products could be Chrome compliant. Hope this clarifies.

I'm aware of Classflow but this doesn't really work for us Promethean haven't actually made any effort, ever, to make flipcharts more accessible/easily exportable/importable on a wider number of device types. I've been waiting 18 years so I sincerely doubt there's be any more progress for you. We're just totally moving slowly away from Promethean now as each flipchart a teacher spends time making is inaccessible anywhere else and completely useless for distance learning in the future.
