MattDLEA Posted February 10, 2015 Posted February 10, 2015 It Looks like im going to have to add some policy definitions to our server to handle win 8.1 machines i need to be able to customise the start screen. I have been to microsoft site and downloaded the win8.1 server2012 msi. Run it and now have a directory with lots of .admx files and a folder with en-us containing adml files. If I copy these over into windows/policydefinitions on the 2008R2 server ( it asks if i want to update the files I already have ) I just cancelled it for now. If i replace the files that are there will it break the windows 7 machines?

3s-gtech Posted February 10, 2015 Posted February 10, 2015 The new files that you overwrite with also contain the existing settings for older OSs, so it's fine.

3s-gtech Posted February 10, 2015 Posted February 10, 2015 Yeah, the server probably won't like you changing C:\Windows\PolicyDefinitions ! Having a central store gears you up for having multiple DCs, failover, easier GP management from clients using RSAT etc. 1
