iPhone 6 vs HTC One M8

Never understood the obsession of always wanting (or thinking that you must need) to have the latest mobile phone (model) and/or claiming you are due another 'free' phone model as your (24 month) contract is ending; especially when you have a high spec mobile already (HTC One M8, which is what I have).!

 

Basically, I work hard for mah money (so hard for the money) and I like shiny new things. I bought my phone outright last year and have a £10 a month sim only contract. Options for me to buy the latest and greatest are buy outright again (Probs £550ish) or a contract. You are right, I definitely don't need a new phone, but I do little else with my money and I use my phone a lot, so I like to treat myself and splash out because I can. If I couldn't afford it I wouldn't be doing it!!!

Make the most of it! Once kids and family come along, it's hard to justify spending the money on yourself anymore (much as you'd love to!)

Nawwww, I live with a cat allergist! Hah! When we move to a bigger house, might get another dog. We'll see. Don't know how tolerant Colin will be of another pooch in his house. He wasn't impressed with EduDog!

@tmcd35 if you want a Music experience that is like that of an iPhone the Samsung phones work wonders like this. I just use the pre-installed Samsung Music Player app which I do love so don't class it as bloatware like others do. This allows me to connect my phone up to Samsung Kies and create a library of music in Samsung Kies to sync with my phone, it also supports Wireless Syncing.

 

It backs up the whole contents of my phone as well in a nice little bundle just in case anything was to happen. A lot of people hate Kies but I don't understand why it's always worked very well for me.

that's WEIRD... cheapest I got was £26.50.... go into incognito and search then... cookies might be hiking your prices up!!!

Except for usable music apps - they don't exist on Android

 

@tmcd35 As has already been mentioned, give PowerAmp a go. I'm a long time user and have been pretty happy with it. Never had an issue reading from SD even with KitKat.

 

There may be better out there now, but I've not felt the need to look elsewhere.

 

I do agree that stock music players that manufacturers have stuck on their Android phones have been pretty poor.

I've got 5GB and it's more than enough. I'm on sim only with EE... meant to be £20 but I got them down to £10. Always worth a phonecall to your current provider to see what they can do to keep your custom. I'm good at that. I pay £5.50 a month for my Sky TV!

Then again, I wouldn't listen to any advice on these boards from a load of us geeks A couple of years ago everyone was raving about how amazing windows phones were, and look how that ended up

It's funny, I feel exactly the same as you however the other way round. Why would anyone pick an iPhone?? It feels like I've gone back in time every time I use one.

 

To be honest, when it comes down to it, they all do the same job. It just depends how we want the job to be done, and that's personal. Pros and cons for what ever you choose.

 

Going back to @mmoseley 's OP, if it was me, I'd probably stick with the M8 a bit longer and go sim, only even if this until something more interesting comes along that you really really want. Sticking something like CyanogenMod on it will probably breath some more life into it if you're finding it a little slow these days.

Indeed. If you buy a cheap phone, you're going to get a cheaper experience (generally). A colleague here got an HTC Wildfire and it was a truly awful phone. I had a HTC Desire HD at the same time, and it was a superb phone. The difference wasn't the software, it was the actual phone itself. Sure, Apple phones are very "you know what you're getting" but they are a very locked down experience that frustrates me at every turn.

 

As for Windows phones - who's saying they're not still excellent phones? Market share != quality.

 

Windows phones aren't too bad. Not a huge fan of the interface though to be honest! The programs list is a bit clunky IMO. Might just be that I've not spent a huge amount of time with it though.

- iPhone: Great support for apps and accessories, high quality devices for a high budget. Established ecosystem but welcome to the Apple lock-in.

- Android: Great support for apps and accessories depending on phone model, wide variety of devices of rubbish to excellent quality and decent prices. Established ecosystem but mind the malware on the store, Google.

- Windows: Poor app support with turbulent period ahead (I want a G+ app but google behave like children ), high quality devices for a low budget (520 is most popular model), MS seem dedicated to supporting it, ecosystem undergoing major overhaul to Windows 10 in very near future to allow excellent crossover from desktop to phone to tablet to cloud, requires time to get used to the interface but works excellent once it clicks.

- Blackberry: Uhhh BBM, some have an Android emulator. Is it dead yet?

Great points above, but have to say that whatever ecosystem you chose to move to, you are locked in. Whether it be Apple AppStore, Google Play or Windows Store. The only shining light seems to be that with Windows 10 we will soon have 1 store for all devices and it's highly likely that we will all still use PCs so it's most open to all.

I wouldnt say your locked in that much outside of apps and most float over both platforms, I am apple based, yet have lots of credit on google apps for films and non-app related media and have no problem accessing them with the apps available there.
