Grant for Technical Training (50/50 part matched funding)

Following on from a thread I posted the other day, I have had a number of requests to explain a grant that is available for technical training.

 

Here is a bit of an overview if you need any further help in how to get your hands on the fund, just let me know.

It's a government initiative that is replacing the eSkills National IT Academy that was around a few years ago from what I can see.

 

I applied for this at the end of last year. Combining the grant and the special discount package for schools and colleges, I managed to arrange 10 days of desktop and server training for the princely sum of £500. I completed the first two days training last month, and I have to say it was excellent. Really looking forward to the Server 2012 Admin course in April - even if it is during school holidays!

 

One thing to note is that the grant is in the form of a refund and is not discounted from the initial cost of the training, i.e. if you apply for the 10-day package, you will have to pay the full £1000 invoice and submit a claim form to the Tech Partnership once the training has been completed. This is fair enough, in my opinion. It goes some way to ensure that the training actually takes place and that money isn't being wasted (or claimed fraudulently!).

What training did you do last month, the Windows 8?

That's the one. Even though I'm the only one using Windows 8 in school, a lot of the course was applicable to Windows in general. Alan was great and adapted the course to fit around our existing knowledge and answer any questions that we had. Another good thing was that he pointed out some of the little inconsistencies that you would never find out about on an official Microsoft course. Really useful stuff.
