win Posted February 6, 2015 Posted February 6, 2015 Can't use flash or java which limits the number of useful websites they use in classrooms. Anyone subscribe to one of the various cloud browsers available? Which one do you recommend?
steewy Posted February 6, 2015 Posted February 6, 2015 I need to test puffin Academy, I'll let you know if it's any good. I also need to access to a few flash websites
Face-Man Posted February 6, 2015 Posted February 6, 2015 Just be aware any cloud based browser will render the website the student is visiting before displaying it on the ipad and so may bypass any web filtering you have at school.
eean Posted February 7, 2015 Posted February 7, 2015 + 1 for Puffin Academy. Is a 'walled garden' so you can only access their approved websites. I thought it would be a problem when we introduced iPads, but actually it isn't. Even though I've set it up, teachers rarely use Puffin. Most educational providers worth their salt are moving away from Flash. Really, it's a blessing: I find those 'handy games' that teachers find on random websites, are usually rubbish! Plus, Flash works badly on touch devices.
win Posted February 9, 2015 Author Posted February 9, 2015 The problem with Puffin is that it doesn't support Java, it only does flash. Much to our annoyance there are some people that request Java so i need to look at something like vitualfirefox
steewy Posted February 10, 2015 Posted February 10, 2015 I decided not to use Puffin Academy or any type of those apps for a few reasons. None of the content can be filtered by us, so students will be able to access to any content they want without being filtered and this is a massive issue for children safety ! The app is using a lot of IP addresses that need to be unblock in the firewall and it has been recommended to me not to unblock those. I guess students will use computers for any flash activities. The main website I wanted to use on the iPads will soon be HTML5 so the issue will be solved.
win Posted February 23, 2015 Author Posted February 23, 2015 can anyone vouch for VirtualChrome-Chrome, Flash, Java, Extensions on iPad and iPhone ?
steewy Posted February 23, 2015 Posted February 23, 2015 can anyone vouch for VirtualChrome-Chrome, Flash, Java, Extensions on iPad and iPhone ? I won't try it because once again the content won't be filtered by the school. It is saying in the description it's using an external server so students will be able to access to facebook and any internet content.
win Posted February 24, 2015 Author Posted February 24, 2015 Using RDP might help with this. Just started a new thread here: http://www.edugeek.net/forums/netbooks-pda-phones/149873-rdp-students-ipads.html#post1283535
