PC for the old man (no £1k budget!)

Hi all,

 

My Dad is retiring in March and wants to treat himself to a new PC, anyone fancy "building" one for me? His budget is around £350-375 and ideally he'd like the following:

 

- i5

- 4GB Ram

- 1TB HDD (He said he'd like a small SSD just for the OS and maybe a few programs, not vital but if it can be squeezed in then brill)

- Wireless adapter

- Should be fine with on board graphics

How about a HP 8200 Elite small form factor?

 

Quad core i5 2400 3.1GHz

4GB RAM (10600)

120GB SSD

1TB HDD

£342 Inc Vat.

 

Or if you wanted to go slightly newer:

Crucial4GB RAM (1 stick, leaves room for upgrades) - 27.76

430W Corsair PSU - 36.18

Cooler Master mATX Case - 34.00

Seagate 1TB SSHD - 61.76

Edimax N150 Wifi Dongle - 7.49

Total: £351.72 (from eBuyer)

 

No monitor, keyboard, mouse or OS there - did you need those working in to the cost?

 

EDIT: or, yeah, a much better offer on a pre-built! Ah well, I won't pretend I don't enjoy theoretical PC building :p

 

EDIT2: just noticed there's no exhaust fan in the case. You can get away without, but I'd sooner have one personally. Be Quiet make good silent fans for under a tenner, but any 80mm fan will do. Generally the more you pay the better (quieter, longer lasting), but I'd be reluctant to spend any more than £10 on an 80mm fan. Monitor / OS are sorted - he wants a wireless mouse / keyboard but I trust him enough to do that :p

like the look of the HP elite, add an extra stick of ram for dual channel memory and maybe an SSD down the road and your laughing.

 

we have got a room with similar HP's and they have been great

We're nice and fit 2 x 2GB to give you your 4GB and dual channel out of the box, leaving two more slots for later upgrades :)

this is good, alot of other suppliers you have to ask for it and pay a few extra ££ for the privilege :(
