Hi All,

I'd be very grateful, if any of you have time to look at this school website and offer any constructive criticism.

Noticed a couple of bugs on Google Chrome, the flag for the language appears outside of its border and when viewing in English, if you select English from the languages drop down it changes to a different language.

 

Personally I think the homepage could do with some more content, the school status should be easy to find, preferably without having to hunt around for it. Overall the style is simple which I like, no need to make it overly fancy.

 

One other thing, it takes quite a long time to load, which might be something you want to look at.

Flash header! Get rid, get rid! Please don't use Flash for an animated header - if it must move, use Javascript or similar.

I noticed a few things that aren't exactly problems but I'd say they are worth changing.

 

1) The pictures on the homepage when you hover, don't blur them. It's not appealing to look at.

2)Purple and Orange are not two colours that clash together very well. I understand this might be the schools colours but try changing the strength of the colours to make it fit more.

3) On Parents > The School Day the time tables could do with a proper format, I don't like the use of tables but it's not too bad a choice in this case.

 

Aside for little things like this the basic structure of the website is great.

The structure is good, but i think the theme is too purple. Although the uniform is purple some colour variation could improve it, as could a different font for the title.

 

I think the kids will like the cloud animation, but the writing looks a bit bland.

I've made a few changes on the back of them, Header text has been changed, it now has a different font and a slight dropshadow, school day layout has been tidied up, clouds are staying for now as the school likes them, The select language module has also been updated as the one I was using was not wanting to format properly, also the school likes the colours so not changing them at the moment!

Re the images on the front page, it's not clear that they are some kind of navigation until you hover them. I quite like the blurred effect personally, but some version of the text that appears when you hover them would be useful - otherwise their use as a nav is a bit of a guessing game.

The dark purple with black text on the currently selected page makes it hard to read, especially if people are using that nav bar to move to other pages within that section. maybe the orange colour to tie the orange in with the colour scheme more?

 

On the contact page the language bar is over the top of the menu header for me.

 

Flash header gives me a flash error on mobile device

 

maybe a higher rez school logo, looks a bit blurred on my screen

 

Link 1 link 2 link 3 at the bottom that i'm sure you are aware of.

 

I like the purple, and the background ties into it nicely. I like the clean and uncluttered look to the site!

Have to echo @3s-gtech - aside from being an unneccesary resource hog, with an increasing number of sites ditching flash in favour of HTML5 and most mobile devices lacking support for it, there's really no good reason to be shoving flash on, well, anything anymore.

 

There are tools that will help you recreate your flash animation in HTML5 though, such as this one: Mixeek - Free HTML5 animation tool

(If you go to "File > Export Source" when you're done, you can drop the resulting HTML code straight on to your page/template)

@LiamH Thanks I have changed the menu text colour for the active page ... I agree it was difficult to see with the black on purple.
