PaperCut NG and Apple Ipads Printing

Has anyone had any luck with getting iPads to print though papercut?

 

I'm just in the process of setting up webprint and thought about the iPads

I didn't set it up but I am maintaining it, we have to add the printers to our mac mini server ( which has papercut on it ) and add the printers via a cmd line. Then get the papercut app on the ipad and link it to the accounts

Give lantronix print server a blast, plug into your main cab let it run, automatically picks up all wireless printers, all you have got to do is remote in and change the name as it comes up with MAC address instead of named printer.

But then that makes all printers on the network compatible with ipads.

We tried but went for presto for air printing. Only cost £200.

There's a program for the PC/server, can't remember the name of it something like Colobo print it's not free but certainly isn't pricey. You install it either on a computer or server and the iPads will see the software and then you assign the printer that you want he iPads to print to via the software and then when a user prints from the iPad it will go to the set printer.

 

I've tried it on a 'follow you' printer and it prints out however because of they way our printers are setup, the iPad will print to any printer in the school and you have to go to all 8 printers to find out which one its at.

 

Good software though, I'd recommend it.

I've just mentioned this in my previous post, Presto is an AirPrint solution by Collobos.

They'd changed their name, didn't realise they're now called presto.

You don't need the likes of Presto if you are using PaperCut with a a Mac as a server. As long as the printers are installed and shared out they will be picked up. You might want to have a look at this support article from PaperCut.

Our main printer server is 2008 R2, we have a mac server which deals with our macs in our music department. Also a lot of the printers are on different VLANs.

 

So from guessing:

 

if we install papercut as a secondary server and point it at our windows box. and share the printers from the mac server aswell we should work for the ipads? (also on a different VLAN)

We had to create virtual interfaces which sat on the required vlans.

Install PaperCut as secondary, install the printers onto the Mac server that you want to publish and you should be ok. Now not sure how it will work with VLANs as not up on that but I know I have had to enable multicast DNS on the said VLANs for the bonjour side of things to work, there a few threads on her about that.
