Morning everyone,

I am hoping you can help me crack this code. I have two iPad 2 devices here both are connected to the network, I can ping the ip addresses without any problems and they are showing connected to the network (wireless sign on the ipad) however I am unable to connect to the internet from either of the devices.

Steps I have taken

1. Restart the device - no luck

2. Disabled and re enabled the wireless connection on the device- no luck

3. Reset the network settings on the iPad and restarted - no luck.

4. change the DNS to 8.8.8.8 and 4.2.2.4 - no luck.

5. Checked the proxy settings and they are correct as well. Installed the new RM certificate and also the new proxy settings - no luck

6. Switch on and off Airplane mode and then re-enabled the wireless connection - no luck

7. Switch off Bluetooth - no luck

8. Refreshed the configuration from Apple configurator - no luck

9. Reset the device completely and entered the information directly onto the iPads but still no luck.

I haven't changed any configuration on Apple configurator nor have added anything new onto the network. Other iPads and Macbooks are working perfectly fine. Infact both devices that aren't working are in my office where my iPad along with three others are working perfectly fine but not these two iPads.

What am I missing?

Kind regards

J.

Hi,

Can you reset the iPad to factory settings and connect it to the WiFi manually and see if the internet works ?

If the internet works, it means your apple configurator settings are wrong. Make sure you add all your wifi certificates to apple configurator and authorise them all before use.

Also check the credentials, or security settings you use in Apple Configurator

If this doesn't work it means it's related to your IP ad, check from the server and monitor that IP and see if it's being blocked from using the internet.

Morning Steewy,

Thank you for a reply. I already tried resetting the iPads to factory default without using Apple configurator. The devices during the initial setup finds the wireless AP, asks for password but then never connects to the AP. After certain retries, it connects to the AP and I can ping the IP address that's assigned to the devices but both devices still refuse to connect to internet. Since my OP, I have tried many times but no avail.

Perhaps an update might have caused this? I noticed Apple released 8.1.2 few days ago and yesterday they released 8.1.3 but then how come other devices on 8.1.2 and .3 are working perfectly fine. This surely is bizzare.

Are you certain you're not close to or are running out of IPs? Have a look in DHCP Server.

If you take these two iPads home, do they work as expected?

The other possibility is MAC address filtering. I have devices running 8.1.1, 8.1.2 and 8.1.3 but don't suffer the problems you're experiencing.

Thank you for the reply Michael,

I haven't tried taking the iPads at home but I think I'll do that and see if it connects to the network. I extended the IP scope few weeks ago so I don't think it's the IP assignment. All of our devices working perfectly fine including devices that are in my office, it's just these two that are playing up.

Will post an update after taking these home and see if it works.

Many thanks

Have you tried adding your proxy setting into the wifi that you are connected to? That's what we have to do,

Connect to wifi then go to advanced wifi settings, change the http proxy to manual and put in proxy details and port.

I presume you added the additional Reverse Lookup zones in DNS? Otherwise devices that obtain an IP in your new range may/may not be able to connect to the internet, despite getting an IP.

Michael firstly apologies for the late reply. I found out that we had to inform proxy (RM) about the extension of IP scope; informed them about it and found out that we couldn't have that range as it has been already allocated to another institution. I requested a completely new range, and although I am aware that all devices need to be updated with the new IP address and a gateway, this time we have plenty of IPs to allocate. There was an option to have a secondary scope but that would've meant a separate gateway. I am still under the process of setting up secondary scope in DHCP and looking at how to migrate from old to new.
