Had my heart set out on a Wii U due to the new Smash Bros and Mario kart though it seems the games are like £40 each and the Wii U is £180 odd!

No wonder Nintendos sales are so bad I could pretty much buy a PS4 for a couple quid more... Why isn't it more cheaper!

I'd also like it to play with the girlfriend or my brother as just some fun light entertainment because who dosen't like Mario... Even my mum wants a go but I thought it would be much cheaper than this!!

What do you reckon folks is it still a good choice or should I look at getting something like a PS4 or xbox one?

How many family frendly, split screen, multiplayer games are on Xbone or PS4?

Exactly.

£180 is pretty good for a console still - that's what the Wii launched at, and I don't think you couldn't build any sort of gaming PC for that price. If you have people on hand to play with, as well, you will get hours and hours and hours out of Mario Kart and Smash Bros. If academic qualifications accurately reflected the topics with the most time spent on them during studies, my degree would be Super Smash Brothers Melee (with electives in MK Double Dash and Super Monkey Ball).

Way I see it, most the games on PS4/XBone will be on PC as well, and you got one of them. The games on a Wii U will only be on a Wii U, and there's still not many people make games as good as Nintendo do.

As a PS4 owner - I want to buy a Wii-U when the time is right. Mario Kart 8, Zelda 2015, Lego City Undercover, Windwaker HD, Nintendo have done a good job since the last E3 at making their console relevant again.

£180 vs £350? I'd save a couple of quid. (Actually I wouldn't, I'd buy the PS4 with The Last of Us and buy the Wii-U later - but that's probably not the right advise in this instance).

The annoying part of owning both is the Dualshock 4 makes the Wii-U Pro Controller feel so awkward to use. D:

I just don't like the stick placement on the pro controller... Still fine when I play Bayo though.

Also, @abillybob. Get a Wii U. Bayo 2, son!

Just ordered a Deluxe black version with Mario Kart 8 from Tesco Direct at £199.99. Picking it up tomorrow from my local store.

Also ordering Super Smash Bros £27.98, Bayonetta 2 £31 & a Wii U Pro Controller £30 all from Amazon.

So excited :) Really did miss playing games like these that are just "fun" rather than serious etc....

Bayonetta 2 £31

...Should have got the special edition.

£8 more for an extra game.

That would put me too close to £100 price mark after the purchase of Wii U :) Plus I need the money for Dying Light and Grim Fandango Remastered on Steam today :)

Sorry forgot these games are super serious :p

Smash is a fighting game and Kart is a competitive racing game.

They're super cereal.

The Wii U is the only current gen console that has any appeal to me, alongside my PC. Not got one yet, plan to. The XBox One and PS4 still seem to be struggling with any compelling exclusives, this year should sort that but meh.
