I was really hoping to see more Mercedes/Ferrari style noses (though obviously within the new regulations), but it seems the FIA have seen fit to allow room for these ugly designs. I really can't blame the teams for it as there are some significant aero benefits from having this design.

So significant that Mercedes' design was, by admission of Newey and Horner themselves, aerodynamically the best on the grid by a long way yet only them and Ferrari managed to do without the silly phallic addons.

So the Williams appendage just makes it look like it's VERY cold outside, if you know what I mean.

Do you have a reference for this? Newey stated that the extended nose provided the most uniform air flow to the underside of the car which was why so many teams took up the design.

It depended on how the initial car was designed. Changing the front nose to produce a different aero effect requires altering the rest of the package behind it as well.

As most of the teams launched with the phallic style nose, there was limited scope on what could be done without creating a 'B' spec car (which is why Lotus only ran their tuskless design in practice near the end of the season)

I think the best that Williams will actually get is a couple of race wins. I don't think they will be able to beat Merc for the championship, but you never know. Certainly a few different teams winning this year would be nice, but as long as there is proper racing and not team orders from the start it should be good.

I also like the Martini colours, and it's a shame that the F1 2014 game doesn't have it in due to it being a alcohol company (unless you play on PC and apply a mod)

Definitely preferred the nose on the FW36 :S agreed that the Merc had the nicest nose last year as well, shame it's against the formula now. I liked the way Force India hid the proboscis last year, painting it black

Toto Woflf said he expected Williams to be the most dangerous competitor this year, which is quite the recommendation! (Though of course he may be biased, being a shareholder and all.)

Well it's not completely against the formula, they would just need to adapt it by bringing the arch closer to the wings main plane.

@JRowley that was from either a BBC or Sky coverage interview near the back end of the season. I hope they don't have to change the merc too much, it still look better than either the Williams or Force India.

As BoredGuy says, it was all about the total package. I recall someone not from Mercedes mentioning that Merc had gotten the package at the rear so tight they were able to gain an advantage with the low nose. I assume that would have been helped considerably with the turbo setup they have.

Don't like the nose on the Williams, but it certainly has the best colour scheme, especially at the night races. I'm hopeful Williams will push Mercedes, but in reality I think they'll struggle to get 3rd this year as other teams with bigger budgets are sure to have caught up a bit.

They're also hampered by the Mercedes engine deal as none of the Mercedes engine customers are allowed to run their engines at a higher power setting than the works team during the race, so they are kind of hampered.

Not keen on the Force India colour scheme, the last thing we need is yet another silver car :-(

Lotus reveal first look at E23 | Sky Sports

Looks very nice. I'm glad they've kept the black/gold combo. We'll see how it drives this year, eh? Not that seeing Maldonado gives you any clues, mind.

I only wish good looking cars correlated with good cars. The Mclaren has been a great looker for many a season but not so wonderful on the track. :(

Lotus appear to have ended their partnership with Coke-Cola via the Burn brand. Wonder if they are going to partner with one of the other teams or call it quits again.

The McLaren-Honda MP4-30 looks nice based on the video on their twitter feed.

They appear to have gone for a black and silver design with a red strip that is similar to the Force India, but with the silver appearing to be on the upper surface at all times.

Now that is a lovely looking car! :)

I agree that the McLaren has been the best looking car on the grid for many recent seasons. Especially not going for some of the recent horrible nose shapes!

ahem... Williams FW36

Much better looking :-)

No, I'm sorry, that looks terribly bland to me! Even the white Brawn with hardly any sponsors looked better! [emoji12]
