USB Stick Access is denied

Hi,

 

I had a search online and on edugeek for this but nothing I've found has managed to solve my problem.

 

In one classroom, on every computer we get the following error when inserting a USB drive:

 

Location is not available

D is not accessible

Access is Denied

 

This room has the exact same policies as all other classrooms and they are all fine.

It happens when logged on with an administrator.

Apparently it was happening before Summer of last year when the computers were still running XP but no one has reported it until now!

 

If anyone could help that would be great.

Seems suspicious that it's a whole room, I don't know how your AD is organised but it seems sensible that a whole room is a whole OU that may have a policy applied to it, maybe a software restriction policy with D access denied, or an access policy with 'restrict access to $drive' active in it. Also check the local policy on the machine for a deny access to $drive policy.

Do you use any classroom management software? (Impero, Netsupport) if so are they blocking USBs?

Do these computers all have built in card readers? I've seen an issue before where the card reader used all the addresses up to a mapped network drive and it meant the USB sticks got "mounted" the same as the network drive letter. We use USBDLM to manage this issue and other useful USB settings.

Some AV programs (Like Nod32) can block usb drives and display that exact message.

 

(Block removable media) in Advanced.

We use Impero, turns out a teacher had disabled removable media.....the same teacher who brought this problem to my attention!!
