Good question elsiegee4. If I knew exactly what the because was I'd be clearer myself. At the moment it's looking like a general use around apps which allow differentiation.

Personally, if you're running a windows network, I'd go with windows tablets. [Full windows, not RT.]

Definitely addressed to Chrisbf1. Although it is a valid question for you too, I suppose. What does the school wwant to do with said tablets? Do you already use Office 365 or Google Apps for example as that may influence the decision?Or is the main aim for the kids to play on a few apps and SLT to have something shiny to take to meetings?

At the moment the few apps but we're also looking at pupil tracking systems.

Lenovo 11e as it can be the yoga version which is a tablet and laptop in one. Plus they are robust and long-lasting

Learnpads = we have loads and love them.

Ipads = we have a few and I hate them!!!!

We have Learnpads here for our Early Years classes and they like them.

 

Personally, I'm not sold on the idea of Windows tablets - the range of true apps is limited compared with Android and iPad, and if you are going to use 'classic' Windows software, why go down the tablet route? And the idea of putting a tablet on the domain and enforcing a clunky domain login seems to defy the point of tablets entirely. Children these days are used to picking up a tablet at home and getting straight on with things - it must seem so backwards to them to be held back by a old fashioned login process that takes (comparatively) ages.

Yep, Learnpads here too. Love the control they give me and the teachers - especially the way you can change the set-up so quickly. I want to look at their wireless charging cabinets too - like any tablet I can see the charging connection being a weak point with kids using them every day. Chuck 'em in the cupboard sounds ideal

 

My overall impression: hardware = good enough,

software = almost genius (if all devices worked like this I'd probably be out of a job...)

Really sorry was a rude comment to FoofighterJim and not helpful. i must have had a bad batch as the ones we had are very unresponsive and out of the 30 we have 10 power pack fails. It sounds like things have moved on from here. I was impressed with the console for managing them

This windows 8 convertible from Very PC is on the stand if you want to look at it. The screen detaches from the keyboard and has a stylus. Runs windows 8

Thanks for clarifying I first looked about 4 years ago at BETT and thought the idea was good, but the devices were not good enough. I think that there's still room for improvement with the hardware, but they're good enough. I've found support to be excellent, although haven't dealt with any faults yet.

 

As an aside, screen replacement is £25 rtb That might be handy in a school...
