Hi,

I do the admin for a large sports school in Hong Kong. 40 different venues , 40 coaches and 20 age groups.

I am looking for some software that can deal with our class timetabling. It also needs to track the hours coaches work. If it can do other stuff too, great, but if it can do timetabling and coach hours - that's my main headache.

Standard school timetabling software has a number of problems in dealing with our situation. Our venues are not really like classrooms. They are like a remote building on a large campus with lots of classrooms with different age group classes running simultaneously within it.

Venue is king in our world. We book slots (as per their standard time slots), and they are the most immovable part of the schedule. The coaches can be shuffled around if needed. A class of kids cant move venue either ... but they could easily move from 'room' to 'room' within a venue.

Any suggestions would be really, really welcome!

What MIS do you use? Nova-T6 can handle multiple sites with various rooms inside each one. Links in to SIMS but can print the timetables off as well.

(Tagged the thread for movement to MIS Forum. Will get the best response there).

I work in a sports college and the school use a software called Venue Booker, the school use it to book out the sport facilities (parts of the field, astro-pitch, tenis courts, sports hall and so on) and mini-buses.

Hope this helps.

At the moment we dont have an MIS .... I was thinking to sort out the MIS as a separate issue. If it all ties together naturally that would be great. I think SIMS might be a bit costly for us though from what I've heard.

Worth looking at Keith Johnson's Timetabler software. He literally wrote the book on timetabling and this software is descended from version 1, which you typed into your BBC micro!

+1 for TimeTabler - it is purely a timetabling program so should cope with all you throw at it. You can worry about which MIS to use later, it integrates with many.

Moved :)
