KDT Posted January 13, 2015 Posted January 13, 2015 Hi all. We bought in a load of Toshiba R50s. They will PXe boot and load the image. Then, once in the Windows PE environment they come up with an error saying that the deployment share is unavailable due to the client not being assigned an IP by DHCP. If we F8 and ipconfig it shows that there is a NIC but 'media disconnected'. This is after updating everything with all the drivers we could find. Here's the kicker: They will image fine as long as we use a single CAT5 splitter, which takes the connection speed down to 100mbps. Could this be a switching issue? We've had the same problem with Duras laptops in the past and just had to forever use a splitter to image them.
themightymrp Posted January 13, 2015 Posted January 13, 2015 Could be that the auto-sensing of the net card doesn't work. Even though your switch supports gigabit, the card can't detect it and so sticks at 100mbps. I would imagine you could achieve the same result as the Cat5 splitter by forcing the FDX speed on the switch port to 100
Oaktech Posted January 13, 2015 Posted January 13, 2015 They aren't connected to an HP ZL switch are they? I've had issues with a certain type of Realtek PXE agent not being able to negotiate a connection to an HP ZL switch unless the port speed is set to 100mb full dup. Works fine once in windows.
sted Posted January 13, 2015 Posted January 13, 2015 ive also (though in the distant past) had issues with intel gb cards and hp switches updating the switch firmware solved it (took so long to negotiate speed it didn't apply gpos on startup)
bossman Posted January 13, 2015 Posted January 13, 2015 @KDT: Do you have STP configured on your switches? This could be what is slowing down the connection as this can take up to 30 secs to connect whereas the DHCP protocol is almost immediate, we had this problem and only have STP enabled on our upload links an portfast on all ports. Not saying that this is your problem but could be if the machine is not able to contact the DHCP after PXE boot. Could it also be that you don't have the correct Nic driver in the build image?
john Posted January 13, 2015 Posted January 13, 2015 Can I point out that unless that box contains magic unicorns your using it backwards! That HORRID splitter goes into the wall and 2 PCs come out of it and you put one at the OTHER end of the wall socket and 2 wires go to your switches. So it would be as per this uber ace drawing:
