OSX On Server 2012 R2 domain

We're switching our mostly windows desktop enviroment from Netware to Server 2012 R2 and SCCM. We do have a handful (100) of OSX machines. Are there any quick guides or best practises to putting these on the domain and "managing" them? I'm assuming it is possible to have these on the domain. I'm just starting to look into it now.

Yup, they go on the domain fine, so that domain users can login to them. As for managing them, there are a few solutions such as Schema extension for AD, in-house or cloud management software, or simply buying a Mac and sticking the Server app onto it.

Do I have to install anything server side for them to get on the domain? My machines give me a 5200 error about not finding the authentication server

check the clock they seem to hat even neing a few seconds off the same time as your dc

The key step I was missing (among other things) was that I needed to prestage the computer in active directory first I've now got it working on 10.9

If you are having to pre-create the computer object the account you are using will be missing some of the needed privileges.

 

You will need the ability to create computer objects in the OU you are targeting and the rights to join computers to the domain.

 

Worth noting that if you are using 10.10, you may get issues even if everything is set correctly. 10.10 is having lots of AD connection issues at the moment.
