timbo343 Posted December 17, 2014 Posted December 17, 2014 Just want to say I have had a quick play with the papercut Email to Print in version 14.3 and is blooming great! Has anyone else got it configured? It took a little while to get it setup and looks like im only putting one printer on it for now until we look at getting a print management system. It means we can actually allow our 6th formers to print via their own devices.
Tricky_Dicky Posted December 17, 2014 Posted December 17, 2014 Yes, we got it running about a week ago for PDFs and then added the Microsoft Office support earlier this week. It's so good and easy! I really like the fact that if it comes from an email address it recognizes then the person still received the pop up desktop notification. All it needs now is the ability to print pictures and possibly the body of the email.
Edu-IT Posted December 17, 2014 Posted December 17, 2014 Do you have to have separate print queues for colour / mono?
Tricky_Dicky Posted December 17, 2014 Posted December 17, 2014 No, we didn't bother. It's all going to a follow-me queue so we can regulate it that way if we need to.
MatthewL Posted December 17, 2014 Posted December 17, 2014 I've had a play with some of these features but not used it in a live environment with customers yet. Majority use the the web upload or the IOS/Android integration with cloud print. PaperCut has a solution for all things. There is a third party piece of software where you can publish the printer out to the open world i.e. followme queue and print with authentication too.
dapaulio Posted February 13, 2015 Posted February 13, 2015 playing with these features at the moment as we are doing a lot with Follow Me Print and I have to say I am impressed with what I have played with so far. I currently only set up the basic web print limiting it to pdf however would like to configure for office docs too eventually. How have people done it? I have a dedicated print server. has anyone just tried installing office on the print server rather than building a clean workstation (seems pointless to me imo and waste of resources)
MatthewL Posted February 14, 2015 Posted February 14, 2015 If the spec of your primary server is ok then go for it but potentially worth building a dedicated box for it to keep the load off the main one as processing multiple office jobs can become quite recourse intensive. You can have as many secondary servers as you want.
minimoo Posted February 14, 2015 Posted February 14, 2015 regarding office documents on the print server - is security risks from macros in a word document getting emailed an issue? Or more, does papercut mitigate that in some way?
dapaulio Posted February 14, 2015 Posted February 14, 2015 regarding office documents on the print server - is security risks from macros in a word document getting emailed an issue? Or more, does papercut mitigate that in some way? Good question which I am sure someone more who is moŕe experienced in this field will confirm. I would like to know also. My opinion... I would imagine it would open in protected view mode. If it didnt it cannot be any worse then the fake invoices documents and besides your users will need to authenticate.
