Yosemite upgrade

Hi there

I've upgraded 3 macs to Yosemite from Mavericks - pretty old Imacs.

I've noticed every now and then the bar seems to get stuck when it boots up.

If I hold down SHIFT and boot up into safe mode ( which takes ages ) the Imac boots up.........then if I reboot it again it boots up.

 

Can you think of anything I could try disabling on it ? It's not got any special hardware attached to it - just a bog standard mac.

I Have upgraded a couple of our Mac with Yosemite and i am running into this issue with them as well. I have managed to fix it by either resetting the PRAM by press and holding the Option-Command-P-R keys when it boots and if that didn't work I help shift option and control to reset the SMC and that would fix it.

 

I only have 3 macs with Yosemite installed an old 2011 one that doesn't ever have this issue and a couple from last year that run into this issue a couple of times a week. i have no idea what is causing it.

We have this issue with a brand new MacBook pro 13" - can I ask if you are using old HDDs or have you done, like what we have done and upgraded to SSDs?

My apple tech also noticed that on the MacBook pro, if there was a USB device attached at boot i.e. a USB mouse it would hang. TBH we haven't had time to try and replicate faults as its the heads swanky new toy lol.

Same for us, we have just had to roll a newly deployed classroom back to 10.9.5 as they were randomly hanging on startup. I have had this at two different sites we support so far with different models of iMacs. Both sites are using Active Directory.

We have bound our problematic MacBook to AD as well. I was thinking whether it is something to do with any SSD settings like TRIM which could be causing the issue.

Been seeing the same issue and am starting to think the only solution is going to involve rolling back to Mavericks. This topic clicky is also in relation to the same issue and at one point we had all of our Macs booting up time and time again without any signs of the dreaded stuck progress bar, but over the last few days it has returned. We are seeing this issue on 21.5 iMacs and MacBooks, set up with Profile Manager and joined to an AD Domain and Open Directory. Our personal iMacs and MacBook Airs have not had the stuck progress bar even once.

We had this, only on upgraded machines. A fresh install fixed it. We have a number of brand new machines with 10.10 that seem to be fine.

There is an issue when you bind the iMac to AD and the machine is "Hard Shutdown"

People seem to be waiting for Apple to fix it

We have reverted back to Mavericks
