Replacing HP Laserjet 4250dtn :(

think the time has come to replace our venerable HP 4250dtn which after 230K pages is starting to "ghost" toner down the sides of the page despite fitting a maintenance kit.

 

i don't think they still make these so what is the equivalent model and is it any good

From the golden age of HP printers!! You're right, they don't make them, I think they stopped about 6 years ago!

 

I have not found one as bombproof, despite trying HP, Kyocera, Brother over the years.

Not seen a b/w laser as good as the 4200/4250s. It was indestructible. Does the maintenance kit have a fuser in it?

no i dont think it does however im sure the print has had one fitted to it.

im sure the problem is because the fuser isnt quite getting hot enough on the outer edges, their not cheap so its a risk on a hunch.

school is looking to move to more centralized solutions so getting funding for a new printer might be tricky..

 

only other printers i have found which last well are the kyocera FS1700/1750 / 1800/1900/1920's newer ones are to be blunt dog sh*t

There is a bit in there on page 90 on repeating defects and loose toner. might help identify which part needs replacing.

 

I've not found anything better than a 4250 either. I would repair or replace with a refurb unit, although we've not actually tried the refurb units here.

I would recommend buying a refurb from ICT Direct best bullet proof printers those.

OKI are built just as good as the older HP stuff. Kyocera stuff is good too.
