Server 2012 - Proxy Settings

Hi

 

For some reason,

 

The proxy settings I set in certain GPO OU's do not pull over. I logged onto a machine and the proxy settings within IE are blank.

 

I set the home page i set is to Yahoo.com but when I open IE the home page is the schools website and havent a clue where its coming from.

 

Any help would be nice.

How are they applied - IEM or preferences?

The home page can be set via IEM on older versions (IE 9 and down), by GPP and also in a GPO:

 

User Configuration -> Policies -> Administrative Templates -> Windows Components -> Internet Explorer -> Disable changing home page settings

 

There are many reasons why the proxy settings could be blank - WMI filter on the policy, item level targeting on a Preference, some over-riding registry settings being set via GP. You'll need to check the GPO thoroughly, and if necessary re-create it and test.

best bet is run gpresult /h filename.html on an affected pc(and or user) and look at what it shows as applied policies see where its coming from

Looks like all setting apply, I have changed the home page a number of times and pulls over fine but the proxy setting is left blank even though I have setup it up within Internet explorer in GPO.

What version of IE are you using? I find for IE10 and higher, setting the proxy in GPP is much more effective.

I had the same issue at one of my schools. GPP had no effect and IEM was missing. I read it's been replaced with something else which was also missing!

In the end I had to apply proxy settings via Registry GPP.

Get the green line out from under Automatically detect settings (F7). I would also check the max version in the XML for that preference (sysvol\domain.name\policies\{GUID}\User\Preferences\InternetSettings (the GUID is on the Details tab of the GPO)

 

Open up the file and find type="VERSION" gte="1" min="8.0.0.0" max=" and make sure max is set at 99.0.0.0

OK it looks like the proxy will pull over only if I put the settings in the default domain policy

I'd strongly advise not altering the default domain policy, or at least taking a copy of the default domain policy and work on the copy if you must. Too many times have I seen corrupt default domain policies.

I took a backup of it before hand.

 

Its just strange, as I have never come across this before.
