  1. I see. So if you wanted to 'prep' for a large project you would need to set one ipad up the day before ensuring all apps have downloaded? It sounds like if a school independently got their own caching server it'll slow down the process for other schools as Apple would direct all schools to a caching server they cannot access. Little worrying!
  2. It'll be an issue from the sounds of it. I've contacted apple, I'll update my findings if anyone else is in a similar situation. Does the caching server link to your MDM? How does it gather which apps you use? If you don't mind me asking
  3. Good morning, We use a number of MDM's in our schools and the number of iPads are growing, reducing bandwidth. I have been looking at the OS X Server or Apple Caching Server and I was wondering if anyone else uses it in their schools? My worry is that all of our schools have the same public IP address. Does anyone know if this is IP Based or do the iPads initially check for a local server before accessing the web? Many thanks
  4. Semi worked! It found it under the US store. I guess it's not available in GB yet and that's why I cannot see it on VPP :-(
  5. It works! Beautiful. Thanks a bundle
  6. Managed distribution. It should be a free APP anyway but I'll need to 'purchase' it through VPP for a silent deployment. I could use configurator and iTunes but I'm trying to avoid using it as I'd like everything managed
  7. Has anyone had the problem of finding an APP on the itunes store but unable to find/purchase the license on VPP? I've been waiting for Youtube Kids to come on VPP in order to deploy via MDM but I cannot find it! It definitely exists! I may have to resort to Apple Configurator
  8. Thank you all for the advice. Witch if your offer still stands in the next few months i would really appreciate it
  9. Schools need to use Volume Purchasing Programme with their iPads and ideally have all iPads supervised. I believe you need to have some form of charge card in order to add billing info to the VPP. You also need to purchase licenses of APPs for each iPad you have so 5 iPads = 5 licenses. You can 'enroll' for the VPP via deploy.apple.com
  10. Hi all, I am looking to move forward in my career, I currently work for my local authority in a very small team. I fully manage/support IT in a dozen primary schools across the borough. My role covers every aspect of IT support from commissioning, maintaining and troubleshooting all school systems, servers, MIS (SIMS) and networks. I also support some of the authority's children centres and conference centres. I have also taken the lead in many projects such as windows deployment, Apple MDMs, software deployment and office 365. I manage my own time and deal with schools direct. My previous role was for a large established team for a county council supporting 500 schools but as a technician performing adhoc/tech on call type issues & service desk. I like to think I am a well rounded technician which loads of experience in education. I will be relocating to the West Midlands soon and I'm hoping to take on an IT manager role in a secondary school or a senior role somewhere. I'd like to hear from some IT managers as to whether the above experience would be enough, what type of networks the secondarys use and any tips or areas I should look into now before I start looking for work :-) Any help would be great! Thanks
  11. No luck with that one thanks though If it's the Local GPO package, I'll have to find some time and do a test build without that step and try to figure out what's causing it! Does anyone else have this problem with their builds?
  12. Completely from memory so forgive me if I'm way off track. In SOLUS 3, I'm sure there is a section which you can define the default SIMS/Connect/FMSConnect.inis under Environment > Configure workstations. check the paths and the INI files within
  13. Bump: Any suggestions at all would be fantastic!
  14. Heres what I got from Capita: Currently SIMS .net does not utilise any of the new features included within .NET Framework 4.5 or 4.5.1 and therefore does not necessarily require either of these versions to be installed on a workstation or server. However on a Windows 8, 8.1, Server 2012 or a 2012 R2 machine where 4.5 or 4.5.1 are pre-installed as a feature, these versions of .NET Framework are backwards compatible and will work with .NET Framework 4.0 applications (such as SIMS .net). Important Note: Some customers might encounter an issue with logging in to SIMS .net or FMS after upgrading to MS .NET Framework 4.5.1 or after applying an update for it. This is currently being investigated,
  15. I haven't seen this in my Target Tracker schools. I've e-mailed my contact at Capita so I'll let you know what they say.
  16. Greetings, I've almost got MDT perfect! At all of my schools I've standardised MDT and at all schools I have this problem so it must be something I'm doing. On an OEM or CD built machine I am able to access our NASBOX on a 172.x.x.x address from a 10.x.x.x school and I am also able to RUN the litetouch.vbs wizard. On an MDT built machine I cannot access the 172.x.x.x nasbox (The specific network is no longer available). I am able to access the Deploymentshare$ with full rights but I cannot RUN the litetouch.vbs. It gives me a connection permission error (Sorry for the vague error message) This happens whether I build the machine from a bog standard Windows 7 wim or from a captured WIM. Also happens with a wired or wireless connection. I'm using MDT 2012 / WAIK Servers will vary but mainly 2008R2 Any suggestions would be appreciated Thanks Scott
  17. I had the same issue at one of my schools. GPP had no effect and IEM was missing. I read it's been replaced with something else which was also missing! In the end I had to apply proxy settings via Registry GPP.
  18. +1 MDT, I've standardised it at all my schools for imaging.
  19. Hi all, Wondering if anyone has had any experience with this scenario. I'm trying to change the library location in FlipShare 5.12. I am being given the error along the lines "Network drives and some external disk drives create access problems which can make content unavailable". Can't find anything in registry which sets this location Any help would be appreciated
