Hello,

We are currently on the process of evaluating hosting our VLE setup in the cloud and as we are going through deep brain storming on how the setup and configuration etc etc.. will looks like, I though of posting couple of questions in here to get an answer from the experienced users who already did similar kind of things.

  1. How LDAP authentication can be done while VLE is hosted in the Cloud and Active Directory in local site?
  2. What if a Read Only Domain controller is hosted beside the VLE CLoud?
  3. Will the VLE can be directed to authenticate users against the Read Only Domain Controller which is hosted in the same cloud Data Center?
  4. Will the VLE can distinguish to authenticate users who needs to be authenticated in the Read Only domain Controller to the Domain Controller at the Local Site can response to that query?
  5. Will IPSec Tunnel be sufficient to have the LDAPs authentication process?

Appreciate if some one could tell from an experiancne and how this experience goes...

Thanks,

LDAP authentication should be possible. LDAPS will be necessary, so that it's encrypted. You will require certain ports to be open (3269 for LDAPS) and you'll need a CA on your network to enable your AD to do this. Beyond that I can't help - our Moodle is hosted on an LEA web server on the same WAN which makes it much easier, and LDAP traffic doesn't have to leave the WAN.
