FN-GM Posted November 21, 2014 Posted November 21, 2014 Hi, Does anyone use Virgin media for a leased internet line? I am looking at getting one installed by them here. Just want to know if anyone has any feedback? Thanks
sparkeh Posted November 21, 2014 Posted November 21, 2014 The only feedback I can give is that we found it impossible to get a quote out of them. We tried two ways, contacting the team involved when embc became emPSN and going direct. Both attempts resulted in unreturned phonecalls and emails and no shows at arranged appointments. Seriously put me off ever using their service if they can't organise themselves to get over the first hurdle.
FN-GM Posted November 21, 2014 Author Posted November 21, 2014 The quote was really easy for us. The person looking after the sales side of thing has been great. Come for an onsite vist etc.

Michael Posted November 21, 2014 Posted November 21, 2014 All Birmingham schools were wired up with Virgin lease lines many years ago, with 10Mbps or 100Mbps on offer from BGfL, but I know Virgin themselves will offer 10Mbps - 1000Mbps in smaller increments.
FN-GM Posted November 21, 2014 Author Posted November 21, 2014 Where they point to point circuits @Michael? Thanks
synaesthesia Posted November 21, 2014 Posted November 21, 2014 Like @sparkeh we found getting any actual information from them amusingly difficult, and they were apparently very disinterested during the presentations to empsn in Northampton. That put off the majority of this area, and their sales guys got the hump when we told them this!
Michael Posted November 21, 2014 Posted November 21, 2014 Where they point to point circuits @Michael? Thanks No they're not PTP's, but I can see why you'd think they were! PTP's are a very cost effective way of linking sites however! 1
Sagima Posted November 21, 2014 Posted November 21, 2014 They are in the process of doing ours. Taken 3 months from accepting the quote so far. (They have sent us a few apologies over the time it has taken)
caffrey Posted November 21, 2014 Posted November 21, 2014 We use them here, have done for a year - can't fault the service (no downtime) although getting it installed was fun. The handover was just a brought into service certificate (go sort it yourself) and they totally forgot about the ISDN backup line and I had to chase that for a while
manc_techie Posted November 21, 2014 Posted November 21, 2014 I've used Virgin at a previous employer and they were great to deal with as long as you get a Virgin Engineer working on the install. We had a 1GB bearer and ISDN circuit (for phones) the latter was fitted by Fujitsu on their behalf and was left dangling from the comms room ceiling.
Synkrox Posted November 21, 2014 Posted November 21, 2014 Can't comment on the service (I used to be on BGFL/Virgin but switched to BT) - However when I got a quote from Virgin they were really sketchy about how they priced things as they (unofficially) had a gentleman's agreement not to compete with the LA. When I told them they had no chance then they revised their quote and pretty much matched BT. However I was already put off. Been pretty happy with BT and their tech guy that came out to configure our fortigate was really good.
SchoolsBroadband Posted November 24, 2014 Posted November 24, 2014 Hi, Does anyone use Virgin media for a leased internet line? I am looking at getting one installed by them here. Just want to know if anyone has any feedback? Thanks Hi @FN-GM, we have dozens of leased lines with Virgin Media Wholesale which we take layer 2 and interconnect them into our own ISP network. We. just like many customers find the service is good once its in, but getting it in, oh my lord.......... in our experience rarely does anything go in on time and getting answers can be getting like blood from a stone. Then there's billing which I won't even go into as I'd likely be bared due to the "colourful" language I'd use. Generally we only use them if the site is already connected with Virgin Media fibre and the price is much better than a BT based circuit. Otherwise we use a BT EAD LA circuit wherever possible. I generally find Virgin good on pricing with 200Mbit+. Thanks and good luck. But if you want a quote again from us do let me know Dave
