New Printer Managed system?

Hi

I have been asked to look into our printer situation at our school. We currently just buy the printer, and then purchase compatible toners for them. We do run Papercut and I today ran a report.

We have 14 different staff printers manly based in individual offices and 15 student printers in teaching rooms. Our monthly output is roughly 26,000 pages.

 

I want to first concentrate on Staff Printers. Staff print 16,000 pages every month on their 14 printers.

 

I'd love to get this down to 4 Staff MFD printers with Follow Me/Find Me printing. Has anyone got any experience with this? I believe papercut has a feature? What printers does it work with? How to staff authenticate?

Regarding the printers - can anyone recommend any? Also thinking about leasing? Any help would be very useful.

 

I'll then move onto the student printers!!!!

We have multiple MFD's with follow me printing. Staff authenticate on PaperCut using their MiFare cards. Or they can use their network username and password.

 

We use Ricoh for our MFP's.

Would it not be worth sorting out a proposal for both Staff and Student and then putting out a tender to various companies? You could then get a managed print solution covering the whole site. Thinking of the printers in terms of staff or students could be a bit limiting.

 

We are currently in the process of consolidating our printing and getting rid of all but a few printers and having MFD devices everywhere else. Will save us a bomb!

I moved everything from lasers to copiers, got Papercut... there is a Papercut client that installs on the PC, the communicates with the Papercut server.

 

The copier connects to the Papercut server and present the users with a login screen.

 

I cut our print spend down by 70% on toner alone, let alone paper.

You could try Complete Imaging. They're based in Birmingham and they provide printers/copiers etc with managed service contracts.

@RobFrain I used a B'ham company called Midshire Business Sytems. They absolutely bent over backwards to do ours at the right spec, price, Papercut setup, training etc. Really good service.

I would love to replace all our individual printers with strategically placed MFDs but we just don't have large enough communal spaces to do this.
