Fee software recommendations. Print Management.

Hi all. getting a little fed up with the amound of paper we are wasting here !

 

But my needs are not great when it come to requirements so i was wondering if you had any suggestions?

 

All i really need is to stop people printing multiple copies of the same document within a time frame or similar.

I went to one of my ICt suites this morning to find nearly 500 copies of a screen shot !!! :-(

 

I dont need print credits as i can do this in impero if i can track print users then that might be also useful.

 

I use windows 7 desktop with 2012R2 servers.

I'd say look at Papercut NG or MF (if you want to apply stuff to MFDs). Has repeat job blocking and copy number limiting etc... We've been running it for about 5 years now and its been flawless. Edited November 14, 2014 by localzuk

Papercut. @SYNACK wrote something to make it a bit more user friendly.

Ok papercut will do the logging using the free version but not stopping the multiple copies of prints. begrude paying just for that option ? or am i wrong ??

 

Seen fitosoft but a little cautious as never seen this before or used it. any comments ?

To do what you want, you'll either need to spend ages setting up something like Pykota (complicated) or buy a package like Papercut NG. I've not seen a simple and free print management system out there.

 

Papercut NG isn't hugely expensive mind.

There are no ongoing costs with papercut unless you want upgrade protection. We recently ran the "denied print jobs" report and the "Unreleased jobs" report and it showed we have recouped our outlay on papercut easily and its only been in since January.

That's why I'm still "thinking" about it!

 

What are they printing to? If it's an MFD you can normally set them up so that they hold the job until a code is input, thus (hopefully!) stopping staff printing 20 copies of the same thing.

No MFD's here just standard Hp laserjets. they are normally pretty good with printing it just stoppping the few individuals who ruin it for the rest.
