Yeh i have had PaperCut before and PCounter too, but i used all the reporting and user management too. I just want to stop people sending the same job 500 times over and seem silly spending all that money to do this when i might at well let them for the money i would outlay on the software. Fitosoft ticks all the boxes but there are no reviews on this so a little cautious. paul

Ok papercut will do the logging using the free version but not stopping the multiple copies of prints. begrude paying just for that option ? or am i wrong ?? Seen fitosoft but a little cautious as never seen this before or used it. any comments ?

Hi all. getting a little fed up with the amound of paper we are wasting here ! But my needs are not great when it come to requirements so i was wondering if you had any suggestions? All i really need is to stop people printing multiple copies of the same document within a time frame or similar. I went to one of my ICt suites this morning to find nearly 500 copies of a screen shot !!! :-( I dont need print credits as i can do this in impero if i can track print users then that might be also useful. I use windows 7 desktop with 2012R2 servers. thank you all Paul

Hi all, a bit of a strange one....... We are running Windows 7 Desktops with 2012 server backend. No other overlays to speak of. My issuse is when the PC be it desktop or laptop start up and gets to the logon screen the cursor is not in the "Username" box. Infact it does not seem to be focused anywhere at all even hitting the tab button doesnt seem to make the cursor appear there at all. However if i logon to the machine then off again the cursor is happily blinking in the username field. From when the system were installed as FRESH no migrations of setttings nothing. however we have put a corporate background on the logon screen which displays the school logo etc. Could this have caused this ?? Can i set in group policy the username field is focused on start up ?? As i say this is purely a niggle not life and death. Thanks all for your time on this. Paul

Yes it seems in future i am going to have to choose a new source for toners.

I did, in fact i wrote then quite a long email asking then why they don't take them back but got no response.

I have been looking round for a few weeks now on how to recycle these remanufactured toner but am struggling. Its real nice that companies do this but forget we need to dispose of the used products, but where ? the boxes of old toners are mounting up now......... Any ideas ?? Paul

Thank you all for you help on this. As 75% of my staff use complex password this may not be an issues plus with the inclusion of AD sync too. I have been looking at Office 365 over the past 6 months now and have even gone as far as setting up users and groups so just need to change the mail record and off i jolly well go !! We use a paid for service at the moment with only a few gripes like i have to email or phone to get accounts set up or changed or groups added or removed other than that is the price tag each year for the privilege. What are the pro's and con's of 365 ?? i have signed up and have more than enough accounts for my staff and even students now which i would not have had before and it looks like i can ask for more if i need them. 90% of my users use Office Outlook on their resident machines so they should not notice the difference. Is there somthing i am missing in all this ???? Paul

We had a similar problem here running old cc3. Brought Qnap mini nas. moved the shared drives to qnap. u can either use iscsi or just remap drives. Then you have the gained space to increase user areas. Be warned RM will not support this at all and will get very much in a knot about it and could cause you problems with support. No i think your right and also one size doesn't always fit all. Plus it doesn't harm to go over the basics even if we should already have a grasp on them. I think what my governors would like here is just to see what others are doing and who out there feels they have a firm grip on what schools are really doing well with I.T in general. Thank for the replies ! what about in the classroom ?? are teachers actively using whiteboard "interactively" ?? We have just spent allot of money here replacing the server end of things and kind of wiping the slate clean and only replacing the software that was needed. Upon doing an audit i foudn there was many titles that are a number of years out of date ! Think the key here is engaging lessons and technology being used properly. Many reports out there to damn I.T within schools saying that I.T based lessons are boring ! Hence why my ask for any schools who feel that they have addressed these issues and more. Paul

We are addressing a number of issues where at the school and looking to what to do for the best in the near future. Our aim is to look at all aspects of IT from admin to teachers to kids and how we are using this compared to other schools. White Boards (best use not just a 40" screen) Desktops laptops in classrooms or from trolleys Mobile technology apple products or other which work well. and a whole host of other things be it VLE kids working from home etc I have been asked to find a couple of schools who have nailed all this and more engaging kids in lessons more and teachers using the kit for what its meant for, delivering high quality lessons. I have been trawling the internet to find reports from .gov or naace but cannot find many that boast excellence in IT other than universities and large colleges and have been blessed with larger than normal budgets. If you know of any school that really does well with I.T From the teacher using this in the classroom using good software to the kids being happily engaged in all lessons then please let me know is i would be intestested in visiting you with one of my governors in tow ! I know you will all be itching to say your school is best !! :-) We are a middle school in Northamptonshire across two sites. Our numbers across both sites is around 650. Hi all, A long shot. I am trying to install EXP maths on a win 7 machine. All installs fine untill i try to use the software and then i comes up with several errors the main one being. Director player error, object expected, get. Director player error, property not found, #pSelectedLesson, Script error. has anyone come across this before ? Thanks Paul

Hi 3s. i dont pretty much that with creating a VM with 2k3 and only SMS. bit of a waste but after reading a few threads seemed the best an easiest way to get this online. These are Win732bit machines if that makes any odds. Do i need a sybase driver installing on the machine. Got slightly different error after adding SMS in the DSN part. "Error connecting to DSN 'sms', check your ODBC setup information and try again." Getting closer. Paul

Hi Michael. Unfortunatly i am running an old version 1.3 and some of the points listed do not apply to me. I have been in touch with RM and they want money £50 for support. But then that does not ensure that i can get this off the ground. hi all, just replaced our aging DC's here and one of the requirements is to continue the use of Successmaker till somthing else comes along that is better. i have migrated over the server end with ease and i hope with some success to folowing the RM notes. However now i am stuck on the client end of things. Installation goes ok until i get to the ODBC setup part which i cannot fathom out the details for. asks for ODBC Setup Database information IP: (Succesmaker server) Port : 2638 Database name: (SMS i assume) Datasource name: (dont know) Username: reports Password: ******** (autofilled for me) Clicking next >> Severe Error installing ODBC Attributes Driver=DBODBC8.DLL DriverName=Adaptive Server Anywhere 8.0 UID=reports PWD=reports eng=sms CommLinks=tcpip(host=10.14.*****:2638) Description = Error Calling ODBC API Invalid DSN Adaptive Server Anywhere 8.0 this is on a Windows 7 machine. One concern for me is that the notes specify that the old RMPublic drive is used, this is currently my new shared drive letter do i need to use this or used the method in other posts of moving the information to a local drive and subst it ?
