Microsoft VLSC and licenses

I have recently been asked to cover maternity on another site, all well and good. Until I was asked to roll out some new laptops. I looked into the schools licensing for Office to find just a VLSC login. Now I can see there are products assigned to the school but I cannot tell how many licenses have been purchased, VLSC is also listing a load of products that the school has not purchased with licence keys the works. Any idea how I can work out from VLSC how many licenses the school actually has?

What type of licensing scheme is it the school is using? Is it OVS-ES (aka EES), Schools Agreement or is it a "one off" purchase scheme like Select or Open?

 

The details of your licenses are available in the "View License Summary" page after you log in to VLSC. If you don't have this info, it might mean your VLSC account hasn't been given permissions to view those details.

 

If you have EES, the number of licenses available are based on FTE staffing numbers (any staff who use a computer and work more than 200 hours a year), but cover any and all devices (for things like Windows client OS, Office, CALS etc...). Server licenses, if listed are specific to the number of licenses paid for.

 

Otherwise, the license number is as expected.

If you are seeing products they have not bought then odds on the license were bought as part of a wider agreement, probably with the LEA. I'd start there and ask them for a list of licences bought on the schools behalf. Failing that finding out who the licenses were bought from (Phoenix, Pugh, etc) and then asking them for a list.

In the VLSC, click on Licenses -> Relationship Summary

Look for your Active agreements. If the school is on the EES scheme, you should have an Active Open Value Subscription, and if you click the Agreement number will say what components are licensed (such as OVS CAL Platform, OVS Desktop Platform, OVS Office Platform etc)

With the EES, you can install Office onto as many school computers as you wish as it is licenses per FTE member of staff and not number of devices.

 

If you click on the Product Keys link in this section, it will give you the breakdown on how many MAK activations has been performed for each type, and the actual product keys you are entitled to for that agreement

After some research, the licenses are nothing to do with the LEA seems they were £4+ more expensive, so some of the licenses where purchased from one company and some from another.

 

Some of the MAK licenses are listed as us having used 5/500 so there must be a wider agreement. The only active agreements are in the schools name or another local school that I believe she also covers. I thought VLSC would make it easy to see what the school has and has not. Am I really going to have to get the Bursar the drag up all the software orders in the last 5 years and trawl through them?
