I have recently been asked by our staff to upgrade the version of ActivInspire on our computers from v1.7 to v2.0. They want to take advantage of some of the new features, the improved handwriting recognition amongst them.

I have pushed out the bundle using SCCM and it has installed on some of the machines. On some of those machines, when a user tries to open a flipchart from Explorer, they get a installation dialog which then errors out saying "Error 1606. Could not access network location \\\\borehamwood\\promethean\\shared resources". They can open ActivInspire from the Start Menu and open flipcharts through the program but explaining this to some staff is... challenging.

On other machines, the installer is coming up with that error right away and failing. Running it by hand comes up with the same error immediately.

I have looked to see where that location is referenced (registry, config files etc) from but for the life of me, I can't find it. The only place I can see it is in the admin.ini but removing it from there makes no difference. I don't know where it's getting the extra backslashes from either.

Any suggestions?

Getting the management software to remove the old version of ActivInspire before it attempts to install the new one seems to fix the issue. By the looks of things, it doesn't like being upgraded.

Hi Norphy, You could try looking for the AppSharedResDir key and checking the path shown in this key is the one you want the shared resources to be installed to before starting the install for Inspire.

The registry key can be found here : HKey Local Machine \Software\Activ Software\Inspire\App\1.0
