[sims] How to import Staff from SIMS to a CSV

One of our Staff has asked me to import all the users from SIMS to a CSV. Please can some one post me a guide and how to do this.

You want to export all users surely.

 

You can do this via a report but it depends what fields they want.

In sims, you want to create a report. Reporting on "Staff, Current", select the data you want and then set the export to be excel. This may help: https://www.eiskent.co.uk/UserFiles/Files/QRS_Running_and__Previewing_Reports_in_SIMS_net.pdf

Reports > Design Report > Select "Staff, all Currant", select which fields you need (Top of list will be 1st column, bottom of list will be last column etc). Hit next > Choose sort order (Suggest surname? Depends what info you need) > Excel > Run my report. Save spreadsheet as CSV.

CSV is easiest for most.

For programmatic stuff more like XML

And as a developer or third party integrator the API has to be the way.

 

However it's crazy the number of third parties who rely on CSV or basic SIMS reports. Which I suppose shows how easy it is to use in that format.

 

Edit: plus from a SIMS perspective import is very limited.

The good old fashioned CSV ;-) I suppose It depends on the number of fields relative to 3rd party in some cases very basic data, but can see an increase in use of XML & APIs in time particularly anything writing / providing data back to SIMS from 3rd parties ;-0
