Hopefully 8.1 won't be as buggy as 8.0.1 was.

This release includes new features, improvements and bug fixes, including:

 

• Apple Pay support for iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus (U.S. only)
  
• Photos includes new features, improvements and fixes
  
• Adds iCloud Photo Library as a beta service
  
• Adds Camera Roll album in Photos app and My Photo Stream album when iCloud Photo Library is not enabled
  
• Provides alerts when running low on space before capturing Time Lapse videos
  
• Messages includes new features, improvements and fixes
  
• Adds the ability for iPhone users to send and receive SMS and MMS text messages from their iPad and Mac

I'll wait for the top Apple sites to report successful installs before updating my iPhone 6 Plus.

Interesting to see if the Windows Authentication issue in Safari is fixed as yet - causing all kinds of issues with that here ended up suggesting that people use Chrome instead.

Using Apple Configurator you have no choice, it will update, so will let you know how iPad v2 copes with it when i end up doing this towards the end of the week.

You do have a choice using the custom iOS function in Configurator...

Hmmm... thought this would fix the issue of not being able to update apps...

 

Does iOS 8 use a different download server for app updates? Could it be that it is blocked in school? Updates are ok on iOS 7... (I think)

Not from what I can see. Ours seem to contact init.itunes.apple.com and iTunes.apple.com when I prompt an update.

If you are getting random times when updates for both apps and iOS are not happening then it's more than likely a school in your LA have bought a Mac Mini caching server solution and your iPads are trying to get their updates from another schools caching server

Your ISP should prevent this though. I know our provider has.
