Sunnyknight Posted October 29, 2014 Posted October 29, 2014 Thinking of buying a joystick, such as:- http://www.amazon.co.uk/Thrustmaster-Hotas-Warthog-Joystick-Throttle/dp/B00371R8P4/ref=sr_1_4/280-8189700-3169519?ie=UTF8&qid=1414590377&sr=8-4&keywords=x-55+rhino or low key.... http://www.amazon.co.uk/Saitek-Flight-Rhino-Keyboard-Black/dp/B00HHAIY72/ref=sr_1_1/280-8189700-3169519?ie=UTF8&qid=1414590377&sr=8-1&keywords=x-55+rhino However, the question i throw to the knowledgable folk is, does it require a extensive setup such as this? How many programmable buttons would i need? Complex controls? Any advice would be greatly appreciated... who knows... i may donate some money..... MAY being the key word.
ZeroHour Posted October 29, 2014 Posted October 29, 2014 I would check to see how the support is for both, not sure how it binds the toggle switches etc.
DMcGuigan Posted October 30, 2014 Posted October 30, 2014 I got interdicted three times in my first 10 minutes of open play last night, no deaths from them, but some close calls. First one scanned then rammed, just managed to escape, second told me to drop cargo, but I'd already had him to about 50% to get him running so I could jump out, and the third just let me go. I ended up being killed by Freeport though, forgot to request permission through Contacts and was trying to do it through Navigation, it blew me up
teejay Posted October 30, 2014 Posted October 30, 2014 Getting the itch to play this, need a bit of an upgrade on my PC though, what would be a good graphics card for this that won't break the bank (£100-£150ish)? 1

Sunnyknight Posted October 30, 2014 Posted October 30, 2014 This should be bang on the money Asus GTX 760 Direct CU II OC 2GB GDDR5 Dual DVI HDMI DisplayPort PCI-E Graphics Card - Ebuyer As much as i would say, buy a gfx once that will last you 3 - 5 years.... with great pain, i have to agree with dave. Push £50 - 100 more... and you're looking at 780tis or R9 290? Ebay job.
StevieM Posted October 30, 2014 Posted October 30, 2014 I got interdicted three times in my first 10 minutes of open play last night, no deaths from them, but some close calls. Does this mean you've now completed all the training missions reliably since yesterday? I really do ultra-suck at this.

ICTDirect_Dave Posted October 30, 2014 Author Posted October 30, 2014 *Turns back to dave and looks the opposite way* Yes. Don't worry, it happens to us all sooner or later...

StevieM Posted October 30, 2014 Posted October 30, 2014 Nope, finished the wolf pack one and figured that'd do and just went online lol Tee-hee! That's the way to do it. The next training mission was something about managing heat and signatures. I didn't even know what that meant (or how to do it!) so I thought, 'Sometimes the best way to learn is on the job. Let's just play!' I can always go back to the training later. Could really do with some instructions, though.

I need more buttons! Tried Voice Attack but apparently me saying "Stop" is taken as being one of 4 other options.
ICTDirect_Dave Posted October 30, 2014 Author Posted October 30, 2014 You could always change the word for it? Maybe halt or somthing? That said, John here has had no problem at all. Maybe it's his bank manager voice or something?

If you're willing to push your budget a bit further you can get a Geforce 970 for around £250 which, whilst pricey, does offer performance that warrants the cost IMO. It's very nearly double the performance of the 760 in most benchmarks. Just noticed it on OCUK for £240. Bargain...! http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-039-IN&groupid=701&catid=1914&subcat=1010 How's everyone getting on with beta 3. It feels like there's been a noticeable drop in performance? Not sure if it's an issue with lag or a specific setting on my system. Edited October 30, 2014 by flyinghaggis
Sunnyknight Posted November 1, 2014 Posted November 1, 2014 I love Flight sims, but this is just.... The controls are confusing as ........ *insert word here* Can't find ONE good config, and doesn't allow me to create my own bindings :/

Not sure if it's an issue with lag or a specific setting on my system. First off, I thought it had become a little easier to control (although perhaps I was just getting the bang of it a bit!). After the Beta 3.02 upgrade, though, I noticed the screen freezing for a second or two quite a bit. Didn't have that problem before. Not played since Thursday so I don't know if it was just a one off.
Sunnyknight Posted November 2, 2014 Posted November 2, 2014 Can i just ask... what exactly are we supposed to do in this game? Randomly started off somewhere... no idea where the chuff to go or what to start doing.... I mean... brooming hell.... eve online is mind boggling.... this is just.... *throws hands in air*

Just like this the rules are thus: 'There is the universe, now go play' There are few basics that must be used though. Initially Elite is a trading game. You buy items in one place and attempt to sell them for a profit in another. After a while, all being well, you begin to accrue more and more wealth which you can then use to upgrade your ship. From here you can begin to have more fun doing missions and exploring etc. There isn't a point to Elite as such. More of a lifestyle. Edited November 2, 2014 by Dos_Box

The controls are confusing as ........ *insert word here* Can't find ONE good config, and doesn't allow me to create my own bindings :/ It does, it just not the best GUI to figure it out, hopefully they will give the controls area a rework. They have reworked lots of ingame gui since the alpha (as you would expect) and every change has improved it. How's everyone getting on with beta 3. It feels like there's been a noticeable drop in performance? Not sure if it's an issue with lag or a specific setting on my system. Having a few issues but its similar to previous beta's tbh, just relog and it sorts itself out. I have to say I like the "Pizza and Drink for Devs" on new major releases policy People can donate to supply them with fuel for the launch (last one being beta 3 obv)
Sunnyknight Posted November 2, 2014 Posted November 2, 2014 (edited) Oh right...... Now that i know the basics (wish they had something similar on the site or forums!), i'll explore to my hearts content. Merci @Dos_Box and @ZeroHour EDIT:- Game is very buggy at the moment for me... taking off from various docks causes the game to crash, killing pirates returns no rewards.... The trading game is a chore! Edited November 2, 2014 by Sunnyknight

Merci @Dos_Box and @ZeroHour EDIT:- Game is very buggy at the moment for me... taking off from various docks causes the game to crash, killing pirates returns no rewards.... The trading game is a chore! Agreed on the trading, although the first runs you do enable you to get to grips with the basics and ease yourself into the game. In earlier versions, the trade part actually made some quite hard barriers where lower ranked, poorly equipped and less cash-rich payers would struggle to get past as there would be large regions where you could only jump at almost maximum range (meaning you had to dock to get fuel - unless you had a fuel scoop) and such evenly matched prices in each (anarchic) system meant that you would have to fight every inch of the way to the stations for little or no profit. Often you would be well down in funds once you refulled, replaced weapons and repaired damage. Besides, there's nothing like the feeling of getting a big score and finding it can be a regular run. The thing about Elite is is that it's deep, immersive and rewards those who put in the effort. I for one can't wait for the major release.
Sunnyknight Posted November 2, 2014 Posted November 2, 2014 Ive started along the way of killing pirates. Earn me a nice 6k per finding. Once i have around 90k... (half a day or so) ill buy a decent fighter / frigate and move deeper into trade. I for one don't like the fact that if your ship is destroyed.... its gone. As in... gone gone.... lol Overall... ive got to grips with the controls... except for the yaw and roll.... confuses the hell out of me...
