JackCPickup Posted October 20, 2014 Posted October 20, 2014 I got one of these: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Thrustmaster-T-Flight-Hotas-Joystick-PS3/dp/B001CXYMFS It works well in Elite but I did customise it a bit, its ideal if you have maet hook paws like me. Glad to hear, definitely going to Scan after work for one now. How long is the cable between throttle and joystick?
Dos_Box Posted October 20, 2014 Posted October 20, 2014 I got one of these: Thrustmaster T-Flight Hotas X Joystick (PC/PS3): Amazon.co.uk: PC & Video Games It works well in Elite but I did customise it a bit, its ideal if you have maet hook paws like me. I'm glad you posted that. I was about to ask what would be a good, and more importantly, affordable, throttle/stick combo for this!
nickbro Posted October 20, 2014 Posted October 20, 2014 And would you recommend this joystick? It's an old joystick now, very good though. I also do some Flight Simming so the dual stick works very well in Airbus aircraft.
nickbro Posted October 20, 2014 Posted October 20, 2014 how much or a graphics card does it need to be playable as my 2 options are the NVidia gt555m in my laptop or the intel hd4000 I think in my nuc I don't exactly know, I've still got a 680gt in my PC and it plays very well, it's quite light on the CPI front, you can always turn the graphics down.
ZeroHour Posted October 20, 2014 Posted October 20, 2014 (edited) Glad to hear, definitely going to Scan after work for one now. How long is the cable between throttle and joystick? I would approx around 50cm, enough to split to go on each side of most keyboards, I liked the fact it could do that and I didnt want to spend a huge amount, the other choice I looked at http://www.amazon.co.uk/Saitek-MCB4330200B2-04-1-Cyborg/dp/B001EYU1VO/ref=sr_1_6?s=videogames&ie=UTF8&qid=1413817626&sr=1-6 but I prefered the split. It works with most games but it doesnt have as many with preprared profiles. Saitek do have more prebuilt profile in games (arma series for example) but it doesnt take long to setup and I normally do customise them myself anyway. The only critisim is it could do with a few more buttons such as pinkie trigger and possibly a couple more on each part of the base but its not a biggie. Edited October 20, 2014 by ZeroHour
ICTDirect_Dave Posted October 20, 2014 Author Posted October 20, 2014 So with all this positive talk about the game coming from you guys. Is it too early to talk about forming an EduGeek Pirate Company?
ZeroHour Posted October 20, 2014 Posted October 20, 2014 I have been a good boy mostly, just hauling trade really since the Beta 2 wipe. Hoping Beta 3 isnt another reset...
ICTDirect_Dave Posted October 20, 2014 Author Posted October 20, 2014 I have been a good boy mostly, just hauling trade really since the Beta 2 wipe. Hoping Beta 3 isnt another reset... Well we could be a legit trade company who collects bounties on the side then. Would be nice to own our own planet at some point...
nickbro Posted October 20, 2014 Posted October 20, 2014 Just an FYI, this is my current joystick, albeit the one I've got is over 6 years old now: Saitek X52 (v2) Flight Control System PC Joystick & Throttle - USB - PS28 - Scan.co.uk, I may buy myself this one for Christmas this year: Saitek Pro Flight X-55 Rhino H.O.T.A.S. (Hands on Throttle and Stick) System for PC - SCB432150002/02/1 - Scan.co.uk
Dos_Box Posted October 20, 2014 Posted October 20, 2014 Is there any news on guilds/groups in ED? It would be awesome to get one started as soon as.
ICTDirect_Dave Posted October 20, 2014 Author Posted October 20, 2014 Can't find anything official but reddit discussions seem to indicate some kind of support for guilds/clans is due. That said all we need is teamspeak and a tag in fron of our name
JackCPickup Posted October 20, 2014 Posted October 20, 2014 Ok I've never found a game more difficult in my life! I fly worse than I drive damnit!
Dos_Box Posted October 20, 2014 Posted October 20, 2014 Ok I've never found a game more difficult in my life! I fly worse than I drive damnit! I'll bet it's 100 times easier than just using a keyboard on a BBC or C64 though! 1
JackCPickup Posted October 20, 2014 Posted October 20, 2014 There's billions of controls and angles and stuff! Gotta master it before my colleague gets it though
ICTDirect_Dave Posted October 21, 2014 Author Posted October 21, 2014 I'll bet it's 100 times easier than just using a keyboard on a BBC or C64 though! Matching rotation with the space station on a C64 keyboard was nearly impossible! Died more trying that than i did fighting pirates! There's billions of controls and angles and stuff! Gotta master it before my colleague gets it though Just think of the warm glow you'll get when you successfully wipe a squadron of pirate fighters in a dogfight and then cruise in to casually dock with the nearest orbital It'll be worth all the practice!
ict-direct Posted October 21, 2014 Posted October 21, 2014 Elite Dangerous - wow! Eagerly awaiting my replacement graphics card (hurry up mr postman) - the old one plays it ok, but frame rate slooows down moving around planets. 1

Gotta master it before my colleague gets it though I was SOOOOOO tempted to buy this game, along with one of those cool looking thrusty joystick things but I know I'd just be wasting my money now coz I'd never get the hang of it. *gutted*

I made minor improvements last night already. I've never played any sort of flight sim so it's all new to me too.
StevieM Posted October 21, 2014 Posted October 21, 2014 Seriously, I think the last computer game I played was Star Wars Pod Racer. This is a whole nother level! But it is Elite...

Just look at that cockpit! Who wouldn't want to learn to fly in that? If nothing else the little nodding doll thingy on the dash makes it worth the money by itself!
StevieM Posted October 21, 2014 Posted October 21, 2014 Nnnnnnggggggggghhhhhhhh!!!! I can feel myself being sucked in. Are there still Thargoids? Tell me there are still Thargoids and I'm in.

alemanyorks Posted October 21, 2014 Posted October 21, 2014 Used to love this way back on the BBC....even bought a joystick to I could play it nicely. Haven't played a space sim since Freespace 2 now that was good, this looks better Going to be investing for the dark winter days ahead.
StevieM Posted October 21, 2014 Posted October 21, 2014 Thargoids+military laser+fuel scoop=payday Hahahahahaha!! Fuel scooping the bounty. Oh, I love it! How can I not give this a go? I can hear the 8-bit strains of the Blue Danube Waltz calling me home.
