Start date is not an available period

Hi all, I've trawled through the Academic Management manual but have come up lacking knowledge but gaining a headache. I'm trying to change the start date of a lesson from 1st October to 1st September in student curriculum summary but September is greyed out and I get the message in the title of this post. I've tried deleting the other lessons that the student was in (in September and in the same block) but this doesn't free up the grey area, I've opened up singletons and double clicked on the lesson and tried setting a new start date but get the error message.Lesson was created in Nova and shoved across to sims in October, but for Data reasons we want students to show being in this lesson since start of term.Any way round? I think I've managed to attach a screen shot

Check the dates the lesson is scheduled in Nova and check the start date of the student - this is where I normally find the solution.

If the lesson didn't exist in September, then Academic Management won't let you move their start date back to then, as the lesson did not exist in the timetable at that time.

 

I'm not sure if there is a way around it other than altering the dates in Nova, but that is not recommended as it will mess with all the other changes that have been made since the start of the year.

I didn't think Nova took notice of dates (other than the 'date modified' save date? How and where would I enter a date in Nova?Thank you for your replied by the way

If you do Focus / School / Academic Structure / Edit Lesson Staff and Room and search for this lesson you will see its valid dates there - I am led to believe these come from Nova.

Its not so much the dates in Nova as the dates specified when the timetable was transferred. If a lesson did not exist on the timetable on 1st Sept the only way to make it exist is to re-export the timetable from Nova with a start date of 1st Sept. As @Shaner88 says though, this is not at all recommended, as there may have been other timetable changes which you may not wish to backdate, and you could end up causing all sorts of other issues with group memberships and lesson attendance if you use lesson monitor.

 

A thought occurs though - did your timetable apply from the 1st Sept for anything. This may be the first day of the academic year, but the timetable may only have been applied at all from a later date, if for example, there were training days at the start of the year.
