It was less frantic, 2 kids showed up a day later, changed their start date to a day later, so absence wasn't effected. No showers were deleted, which as bobsmith mentions is fine. Technically we're supposed to do this with the withdrawals and no shows anyway for data protection (after 6 months). So did you take manual registers and then admit them eean?

Hi gaz, thanks for the input. So, how does cover work should a teacher be absent? How do you know what side of lunch they do? I assume that your cover person has to manually check each staff TT? Or are your 2 lunches set in NOVA-T so show up in timetable? Many thanks Damien

Hi eean, how did this go for you? I was going to ask about this but don;t want to duplicate post. In the past I think that we've waited until the first day of term before admitting students, which was a mental run around of registers and sims inputting. Last year I admitted them 'on roll' in August, with a start date of the first day of term and then moved the actual start date of students who arrived days later, or deleted non attendees. MI5 didn't bust down the school doors, so I may end up doing this again. Although, I seem to remember reading somewhere that deleting students is not 'best practice'. However, I'm beginning to realise that in education, 'best practice' is often a fine example of nonsense. Best wishes Damien

Thanks everyone for their input, and so quickly. I think I'm thinking (worrying) more from a timetable point of view. We have 1 hour lessons and they want 30 minute lunches 30 minutes apart, during P4. So ks3 12.30-1 KS4 1:30-2. What is messing with my mind is in their suggestion period 4 will be 90 mins (with 30 minute lunches at the first a last 30 minutes) and all other lessons 60 mins. SLT asked if there is any need for 'lunch' to be timetabled in Nova. The answer is no, but this will lead to difficulty I assume in covering staff absence (ie, which side of p4 they're lunching). Proposal is (clear as mud) KS3 9.10-10.10 10.10-11.10 11.10-11.30 Break 11.30-12.30 12.30-1 Lunch 1-2 P4 2-3 P5 Ks4 9.10-10.10 10.10-11.10 11.10-11.30 Break 11.30-12.30 12.30-1.30 P4 1.30-2 Lunch 2-3 P5 Perhaps there's a timetable forum somewhere! haha. Hi all Slt are pretty pro about split lunch times for next year. I remember attending a timetable meeting some time back and the mere mention of 'split lunch' caused a number of timetablers to gasp in sheer horror, (I'm a timetabler). Slt are looking at this from a behaviour point of view, but have asked me to ask the forum if it's worth it!? So, if you currently have split lunches, or did and reverted back, can you please let me know the downsides to it, if any? Was it a timetable (staffing) nightmare? Thank you in advance Damien

Hi all. I've managed to promote all Y7-10 up an academic year via the promotion. Our vice principal is now doing the options package and it has come to light that 2 students are not showing up in Options.............. These two are new starters in current Y8.............. I've tried changing academic year to 2015/16 going into academic structure and assigning them to Y9 from 01/09/15, but this gives me a greyed out block that always states both that the start date and end date are not eligible periods. I've amended these dates to the actual dates of both the 15/16 academic year and the working year with no luck.......... I can relax the tab and force 9y, but this then states it's overruled, the students still don't show up in options, they are allocated 9y, but it's greyed out once more.So, how can I promote or amend their year group from 09/2015?....I've attached a screen shot of the situation.Many thanks for your help, Damien

Lastly..... Should I move kids from one class to another now, using the existing classes (to empty the class that will no longer exist). Or should I wait and do it when I upload the new classes post dated to Jan?

Dear all I've created a new academic year in SIMS and am currently working on the new 2015/16 curriculum on Nova. When I look at the 2015/16 academic year in SIMS it has all of our students as they are now, in 2014/15, such as year groups/reg of course. Can the setting up of aspects and marksheets in assessment manager for the new academic year happen now? It would be really helpful if we could do that in advance of 1st September (my data team are asking). Can I import the 2015/16 Nova curriculum into SIMS now, (I assume I set the live date for 1 September) and start playing with academic promotions. Or can I only do that after July?? I'm using bullet points, as every time I press return twice to create space between paragraphs and sentences this gets lost in the submissions process and it ends up as 1 long paragraph. How do I create spaces between paragraphs? Is there a hidden method other than using the return button? Thank you and thank you again! Damien

Thanks Linfit, I agree that the key to this is the correct updload date in Nova and then the correct term dates in curriculum assignment. Worryingly I have NEVER used the 'update course memberships routine'. Beforehand I've only swapped students out of one class and into another which seems to have worked without this update. Next year we are having a carousel which I've just read about updating course memberships. Other than that what is the course membership update for??

It made (slightly) more sense when there was formatting, which when I posted stuck it all in 1 paragraph.I've effectively deleted lessons/blocks in NOVA that currently exist and have kids timetabled up to 19th Dec. I want to upload a new NOVA file (minus the classes) and I will date it from 1st Jan. I hope this won't delete the lessons beforehand, i.e now. Because these lessons won't exist any more, I was also wondering where the students that were in the class would be found in SIMS. So that I can allocate them into english (from the deleted Rd class) which I assume won't show up in SIMS?

Dear allA faculty have completely re-jigged themselves for the January term after staff leavers etc. This incorporates teacher changes, class swaps, class disbanding and amalgamation.I know I can set the start date for the Nova SQL update to take effect from 1st Jan. Will this then let me edit class populations from 1st Jan in SIMS? Eng classes have decreased from 5 to 4, that last class I need to amalgamate into the new 4.Some other classes won't exist any more, let's say 8x/Rd, (an intervention reading class). So I'm not building those blocks in nova and will delete eventually from the model. These students are instead going into one of the 4 English classes (that happen at the same time).Seeing as I'm not uploading the 8x/Rd into sims, where will the students show up in sims that 'used' to be in that class? Or should I not worry about that and just populate Eng from Curriculum by subject? I'm unsure where the students from the non-existent class will be!I'm not planning any more Nova updates until January, realising that this will cause issues. Hi all, I've trawled through the Academic Management manual but have come up lacking knowledge but gaining a headache. I'm trying to change the start date of a lesson from 1st October to 1st September in student curriculum summary but September is greyed out and I get the message in the title of this post. I've tried deleting the other lessons that the student was in (in September and in the same block) but this doesn't free up the grey area, I've opened up singletons and double clicked on the lesson and tried setting a new start date but get the error message.Lesson was created in Nova and shoved across to sims in October, but for Data reasons we want students to show being in this lesson since start of term.Any way round? I think I've managed to attach a screen shot

Hello helpers Once set up, is it possible to change the Week A/Week B set-up? We have a 2 week cycle (not mirrored) and the week before half term there are only 2 days of Week B before breaking up. The week back is Week A, which they now want to change to Week B to ensure a full week tuition. This will obviously have a knock on effect to the rest of the academic year. Thanks Seb1780, the effective date was 6th, I changed it to 7th and 8th with no change to timetable (or reference to hew reg group).

Thank you, end date of old membership is 5/10/2014 start date of new membership is 06/10/2014 New reg group is 8COS, old reg is 8KWA, timetable still states KWA lessons.

Hello all I've just changed a Y7 student from one tutor group to another. They have some lessons in linear blocks so attend art/music etc in their tutor groups. I've changed this student's subband from d to c (the linear block/tutorgroup lessons and housed in a/b/c/d subbands), but I note on her timetable that this hasn't changed anything, and it also shows her old tutor group not her new one next to the 'old' lessons. I changed her tutor group by focus/school/pastoral structure/current structure/Y8/members and re-allocating. Does sims 'update' overnight or something? Other timetable changes are instant, like changing an english class teacher etc using curriculum assignment by student. Any help appreciated, thank you in advance Damien
