Google Apps for Edu verification

We are trying to set up Google Apps for Edu but cannot get past the domain verification step. We registered ourdomain.bham.sch.uk with google, however the DNS records point to http://www.ourdomain.bham.sch.uk so the Meta tag verification does not work. We have a Wordpress site hosted externally, however Google say we could not upload a HTML file to here either as it is not the naked domain. The only other option is to change the CNAME records but these are owned/hosted by BGFL and managed by Link2ICT.

Anyone using Link2ICT managed to get this sorted, as we don't want to have to purchase another domain.

Doesn't that mean you are a subdomain of .bham.sch.uk?

 

I don't think you can register GAFE for a subdomain - you may need to register a separate education domain just for your school.

Its not a sub domain of .bham.sch.uk school.bham.sch.uk is the actual domain and the school controls this. Being from Australia you wouldn't have known

 

@TheBinMan another option is to create a DNS record and point it to you web server. In the DNS record you make it so you don't require the www. to get to the site. Some DNS providers say use a @symbol in the record, some day leave it blank.

The other thing to note, and it may make you reconsider your options... Your primary domain becomes your usernames to log in with. You have to type the whole thing when you want to log in. Your users will be grateful of the shortest domain possible. [email protected] may be a handful, where as [email protected] for example may be much more manageable. We are ..sch.uk and validated the domain by uploading a file to our webserver.

Our DNS has an entry for ..sch.uk (ie no www. required).

Thanks for the info. I've contacted Link2ict who have asked for the details. Change request submitted now, to add record to the CName record.'

Regarding the long username we're going to implement SSO through Frog as it looks quite straightforward .
