Epson EB-475WI loosing pen contact

We had 4 of these installed just over a year ago, they have been great apart from 1 which has always had issues. During use the pens will just stop working or be jumpy missing out parts of lines/words.

 

It was installed with a USB to CAT5 extender and had a different board to the other 3. I've changed the extenders, re-ended the cat5, checked the cat5, changed computers, swapped USB ports but the problem still happens.

 

As i've said the other 3 work faultlessly so cant work out why this one is such a pain, would a too reflective board cause this as its not as matt finish as the others?

Does this fault happen with any pens from the other projectors? or just the pens that came with it?

Have you tried the faulty pens with another projector at all? Does the problem manifest itself on the other projectors?

It could be a case that there is a fault with the projector itself.

Have you contacted Epson at all? I have found their support excellent in the past whenever I have contacted them via phone or online.

The issue is the Cat5 USB extenders only support upto USB 1.0, you need to use active USB extensions that are USB 2.0 due to the higher transmission rate required by the projector.

I'll try another set of pens on it but if it really is that we need a USB2 extender then that'll dent the budget.

Not really depending on the length required. 10m ones are less then £20. There available upto 40m

We had a similar issue in our school with the Epson EB 455wi Projector and it turned out to be the Cat5 USB extender (as mentioned by education_AV), after swapping it for the active USB extenders the problem vanished.
