How do you deal with save error "This operation has been cancelled due to restric...)

Hi all,

Some applications that you cant set default save locations for like word documents opened from the internet and google chrome applications give the error when trying to save

Untitled.png

This is because its trying to save in the profile held on the C drive and I have restricted access to the C drive in a GPO. If I remove this restriction it gives a different error saying you cannot save here, would you like to save in the user folder instead which is on the C drive.

I don't want them saving on the C drive as this wont follow them round and cant be backed up on the server. Their documents are redirected.

Cant imagine im the only one that's restricted and set the C drive to hidden.

How do you get round it?

With chrome you can use GPO to set the default download directory, which I usually point to their homefolder (which also has file restriction policies on it). Other that that it really depends on the application - some you can configure to a different default save location via editing an .ini file for example.

We sorted this with folder redirection (as previously stated) but we still get members of staff opening word/excel documents from email attachments and then working on them directly. When they come to save their work that message still appears (I guess as it's trying to save it to a temp folder on the C: drive - which we've restricted). If I had a penny for every time I've said to someone "Save the attachment into your work area and open it up from there," I'd have about £1.40p. :)
