Office 365 - SharePoint reliability

Hi all

We're using Office 365 which has been Federated with RM Unify. We've built a couple of SharePoint sites using RM Site Builder. As you can see, we're not using it in just a vanilla fashion, and I'm trying to see if that has anything to do with some problems we've been having recently.

 

For the last few days/week or so, our SharePoint sites have been unreliable, often giving access error messages. Sometimes slow to open.

 

The Admin Portal has highlighted a number of Microsoft SharePoint issues recently.

 

My question(s) are

-Has anyone else had reliability issues with Office 365 SharePoint sites in the last week or so?

-If so, is this just a bad period, or is it a regular occurrence? I have to assume the former.

-Can anyone recommend and school friendly (i.e. cheap) Office 365 admin courses?

In my opinion Sharepoint online is nowhere near ready for the real world yet.

 

We gave it a good test but I much prefer our on premise sharepoint 2010 server.

 

We use Office 365 for everything else though.

There is rarely a day goes by where Sharepoint isn't listed in the services issues bit in Office 365. We don't use it (other than second hand) for anything so we don't care, but it does say a lot about it.

Attached (hopefully) is a screen shot of our SharePoint site collections. I have no idea is the limits (particularly the Server Resource Quota) is set right for a school of our size (1000 users).

Our two sites are the Post 16 and KS3/4 sites

How many custom solutions do you have in the site collections. We use a custom web part which uses the resources but never seen it go over 500. You've got 331300 resources out so you can share that between all your site collections.

We're putting our Intranet on there and thus far it has seemed laggy and randomly bits seem to break e.g. the other day all the top navigation and similar UI controls stopped working for no apparent reason.

 

You also need to watch out for mandatory restrictions MS have put on there as well, for example I'm trying to use Audience Targeting for staff-specific content but the lists only get recalculated once a week which is ridiculous.

 

You gain on one hand as there's none of the worries about setting up a server farm and keeping it running but it seems SharePoint Online isn't as mature as a cloud product in comparison to Exchange Online (where control and feature set seems to be much more complete).

This has been a useful post. I've been seriously considering moving our on premise Sharepoint 2010 box to the Office365 platform, but I think i'll hold off for now.
