Hi All

I was sent this patch today by my LA, when I tried to run it I realise they sent the wrong zip file for me to apply.

Has anyone got this patch that they could send to me tonight please?

All the best

Hi all, i'm trying to run this at the moment but in the DB upgrade tool I just get a 'please provide login credentials and press login'. Any tips? I've just re-started the server. Haven't had to run a patch not through solus 2 before (we're having a new SIMS server installed over half-term).

When i enter the server name and instance it just doesn't seem to accept it:

server name: snet-mis-001\sims2008

database: sims

Am I specifying that correctly in the server name?

Guessing we're all rushing so schools can get the Census done?

Any advice much appreciated

Humm, no luck although the late night response was much appreciated.

I'm restarting the server and shall try selecting the ZIP'd patch rather than the folder containing the Patch 19996 Cens v2.piz file.

SA account surely isn't a sims account? I've just given one of my SIMS admin accounts full permissions in SQL management studio to see if that's a requirement.

Second year involved in SIMS and I feel like I at least have to get some of the basic training!

To second what teejay said, sa is the account I use when using dbupgrade. Server name and database look ok in your post.

Good luck.

Pirran, I just looked at your latest post. From experience A patch will consist of a folder that contains a signature file, an XML and a zipped folder. You need to point dbupgrade at the folder. In your case that might be called 19996 and contain

The three files. Hope this helps.

Many thanks, had to be something as obvious as that (i'm somewhat annoyed with myself for not checking). I received an email with the PIZ file and a ZIP, I shouldn't have assumed that the ZIP was just an archive with the PIZ file in.

Anyway, I unzipped the ZIP and there were indeed 3 files in it. Selected 'Run all SIMS database upgrade files inthe following directory' and it worked. I ran it using my own SIMS account that was a SIMS admin, I elevated it's security settings in SQLServer management studio so that it was DB admin. The latest step may not have been required but I'd already done it, reverting those settings now.

Many thanks for all the advice, especially late in the evening. My data person will be chuffed tomorrow, I wonder how many errors will remain in the Census...

I was pulled up on friday because there were 127 errors in the census, 90% of these were fixable by applying the patch! I applied the patch yesterday early morning, no one is rushing to get the census done though!

Please note, we're not supposed to post / share patch files or upgrade files, they should come from official sources; direct from Capita or support teams.

The software is copyright, and we don't want it being shared publicly. We often have requests from unscrupulous users trying to fish for installation media and other files, and so it's best to avoid this.

I think it's a generic patch, however, it should still go through the proper channels, and this way, it will go with the correct instructions for how to apply it and the support companies can record that it's been sent / applied on a particular installation.

It's great to see people helping eachother out, but we can't be responsible for who will download and try to install, so it's safer to stick to the appropriate channels.

What is useful is to put up a post saying it's a required patch and all should check whether they need it, as that kind of information is often lacking with the customer base and not even shared very well on Capita's own SupportNet. Talking of which according to a post on SupportNet from Capita staff on 1st October, the patch should have been available through SOLUS.

You're quite right, iit should have been available through solus. Unfortunately despite paying for support through our county patches are rarely made available that way. We are on solus 2 for another month so that may be why. Thanks for all the advice everyone it's very much appreciated.

That sucks. I'd complain about that. This one has had three ( I think ) revisions and you need to have access to the latest one through official channels.

We never automatically receive patches via SOLUS3 either.

I find it quicker to raise an online support call requesting the patch be emailed than requesting it be released to our SOLUS.

Are other folk automatically receiving patches such as these?

(Db updates/releases and occasional every-single-customer ones appear, but not these that apply to pretty much everyone and quote that they are now on SOLUS)

My patches come through my LA. Very lucky to have them as they are on the ball and they will apply them for us. :)

If you aren't getting a good service from your support unit please complain - may be copy us in on your complaint.

Most units I come across do a great job. I go to most of the accreditation presentations and get to read school feedback which is normally excellent.

If you aren't getting a good service from your support unit...

Is that reply partly at me, or just at those who've mentioned LAs? I don't go through any LA or other support unit, I go straight to Capita, so the issue isn't just down to badly performing LA units?
