International Rescue return to the small screen to mark 50th anniversary - News - TV & Radio - The Independent However it won't be the programme I recall: ...Created by the studios behind the successful Lord of the Ringsand Avatar films, the new series has spurned the "Supermarionation" puppet techniques that co-creators Gerry and Sylvia Anderson pioneered and will instead use a mix of cutting-edge CGI animation and live action miniature sets.... 1

Gatt Posted October 6, 2014 Posted October 6, 2014 Cutting edge cgi saving people from Barbie's play house, thanks Disneyfication As much as I think (Weta?) did a fantastic job with the CGI in LOTR, I feel some things should be left untouched - this being one of them!

LeMarchand Posted October 7, 2014 Posted October 7, 2014 It could be good. The guys at WETA are big fans: Richard Taylor took Sylvia Anderson as his +1 to the London premiere of FotR. As long as it wipes the memory of Thunderbirds sponsored by FORD (2004) from my mind. Anybody seen this? HI-SECURE 1

pooley Posted February 7, 2015 Posted February 7, 2015 Never liked the original series so doubt I'll enjoy the new one. Just never appealed.

Gatt Posted February 26, 2015 Posted February 26, 2015 (edited) WTF? When did Lady P become a stereotypical "young blond bimbo"? Edited February 26, 2015 by Gatt
GREED Posted February 27, 2015 Posted February 27, 2015 (edited) Oh dear indeed... Barbie and the 'insert stupid title here' studios indeed. Why why why why why... WHY can they not just do a decent version for once. Even the film was awful (thanks Riker!) Spend big, get some decent real actors... (no offence but harry potter had done the 'kids save the world' now) you k ow what jusy copy all the original stories if you like. And for god sake don't make it just for kids... I mean I'm not the biggest fan but they didn't do too bad a job with Dr Who, just add some gore and a few swear words when brains jams his hand in TB2s door and you are away! LeMarchand Posted March 14, 2015 Posted March 14, 2015 Trailer looks like it will skew too obviously at kids for me, but kudos for: The "cries for help" intro - I always thought that would be a great way to start a TBirds trailer (though would have used it as a teaser ending with the reveal at the end) The Eagle Transporter looking craft at 0:20 The countdown
6Foot2 Posted April 4, 2015 Author Posted April 4, 2015 Just finished watching it. I didn't like it (but then again I didn't expect to like it) Without making comparisons to/with the original series I thought that the story was chaotic and didn't hold the interest. My son, who is probably more of the age that this is directed at, wasn't interested in watching it at all. Verdict: Abject failure.
GREED Posted April 4, 2015 Posted April 4, 2015 I actually think it was ok. It was very all over the place and fast paced which does attract the new generation, but I was quite pleased to see a lot of the original yet updated designs, themes, etc. It was never gonna be anywhere near the original, it however did surpass the live action film version which was the marker. I wouldn't say failure as it has to be aimed at the new generation of kids... unless they take my idea and make a dark adult live action version... Please... But overall pleased it wasn't terrible... not sure I will watch many more unless I can get my daughter into it!
DanTheLacky Posted April 4, 2015 Posted April 4, 2015 Wanted to watch it but missed it, hopefully will be on catch up somewhere...
6Foot2 Posted April 4, 2015 Author Posted April 4, 2015 Wanted to watch it but missed it, hopefully will be on catch up somewhere... It is already on ITV Player: Link: https://www.itv.com/itvplayer/thunderbirds-are-go-/series-1/episode-1-ring-of-fire-part-1- http://i.snag.gy/FXq0H.jpg
unixman_again Posted April 4, 2015 Posted April 4, 2015 I watched and thought it wasn't a patch on the original series, as there were far too many changes. Why did they completely change the shape of T5? Why did they change the nationality of Brains? Why did they change the name and nationality of Tin Tin? Why did they make Grandma far younger? Where is Kyrano? Why give Lady Penelope a designer handbag mutt? Why change the way Virgil enters T2? (What's with the acrobatics? Surely he wouldn't have to heave the hatch shut by hand?) There were some nice references to other Anderson series. Stingray shown on the TV (albeit backwards), the front of the underwater research station looking remarkedly like the front of an Eagle from Space 1999 and the new Thunderbird S (S for Shadow) as a reference to UFO. Did anybody spot any others?
6Foot2 Posted April 5, 2015 Author Posted April 5, 2015 Saturday 8 am is to be the regular time slot for the rest of the series: http://i.snag.gy/9BaDV.jpg
