Popular Post nickbro Posted September 24, 2014 Popular Post Posted September 24, 2014 Another plug for this little app I've made to pull timetables from SIMS and put them into Exchange. New in this version is the ability to pull room timetables out of SIMS too SIMS.net to Exchange - nb development for the download link and instructions. I may try and see if there is a way to pull the cover/room change information out of SIMS as well, but I haven't found a report I can create yet. 5
Marshall_IT Posted September 24, 2014 Posted September 24, 2014 Looks great, If you can get the cover timetable out with the staff member being covered that'd be fantastic as I've not had any success in finding a solution to this.
nickbro Posted September 24, 2014 Author Posted September 24, 2014 Nope, still no sign of a solution to that either, there doesn't seem to be a SIMS report for it :-(
vikpaw Posted September 24, 2014 Posted September 24, 2014 But, the cover manager can publish to html, so if they do that regularly, you can steal info from the web page....
Kyle Posted September 30, 2014 Posted September 30, 2014 Could you pull the school diary out of Sims?
nickbro Posted September 30, 2014 Author Posted September 30, 2014 Should be able to. Just to let you guys know, I've got a working version with cover as long as you export the HTML cover. Will try the diary tomorrow and if I can do it I'll release v3 with all of these in 1. v3 will also do more stuff in concurrent threads, so it should be able to generate staff/room calendars while doing cover/diary
Boredguy Posted September 30, 2014 Posted September 30, 2014 When trying your previous version on Monday, I noticed it did not appear to pull out any meetings from SIMS that were on the staff timetable. Is this a restriction on the information provided by the report, or by design?
howartp Posted September 30, 2014 Posted September 30, 2014 Ooh, good to see someone else doing this. We been doing it for three years and the staff love it, but ours is a bespoke solution that isn't easy to share with other schools who want it. Nick is hitting exactly the same problems with non-class codes and cover that we found, and I'm not yet aware of a way other than the HTML files. We don't display cover in exchange - just a PHP page on VLE to reformat the HTML. Peter
nickbro Posted September 30, 2014 Author Posted September 30, 2014 I think you can get the information via the SIMS business objects, but I don't want to go treading into that minefield. As for non class codes, I think I may have a way of getting that information, but I need to do some more testing 1st

victory2012 Posted October 3, 2014 Posted October 3, 2014 Nick is ther a log file somewhere im getting "CHS.SIMSExchange.exe has stopped working" but no idea why.. would really like get this working if you could help?? Thanks Steve
lewisburgess Posted October 14, 2014 Posted October 14, 2014 Hi Nick, I've tried to use this but it just keeps crashing at the point it connects to Exchange. I've created an impersonation account and also tried the main global admin account but with no success. We're using Office 365. I realise in the documentation it says it's untested, but this app looks like it's just what I'm after. We can't afford Salamander or in fact any paid solution to achieve this. I've cut down the XML report to 1 teacher for debugging purposes. I've also turned off room imports. I've also tried using our podxxxxx.outlook.com address, auto discover address and leaving the field blank as suggested. Any ideas? Many thanks. Lewis.
Boredguy Posted October 14, 2014 Posted October 14, 2014 Give me a poke Lewis as I have the latest version running happily on 365
nickbro Posted October 14, 2014 Author Posted October 14, 2014 v3 should be out soon with Cover abilities
nickbro Posted October 14, 2014 Author Posted October 14, 2014 Does someone want to test v3?SIMSExchange.zip
Boredguy Posted October 14, 2014 Posted October 14, 2014 Well V3 crashes when trying to connect to Exchange for me. First I had to run it with SIMS connection in Auto mode to generate the report.xml and then it crashed (as expected since the report had 1Mon instead of Day1 etc) So I set it back to AutoSIMS False and it sees 600 records... and then errors. The previous version still works ok.
nickbro Posted October 14, 2014 Author Posted October 14, 2014 Make sure to set the Rooms to false so it doesn't do room bookings
Boredguy Posted October 14, 2014 Posted October 14, 2014 I've still got it set to False as per v2 settings
Boredguy Posted October 14, 2014 Posted October 14, 2014 Ok, tried again and now it gets as far as trying to remove one of the lessons that already exists in the calendar before falling over... so slight progress
nickbro Posted October 14, 2014 Author Posted October 14, 2014 Ok, have to set the cover section? I could be one of the other threads causing issues
victory2012 Posted October 14, 2014 Posted October 14, 2014 hi still getting CHS.SIMSExchange.exe has stopped working with v3 and only have staff set to true.. would really love thisto work -(((((((((((((((((((((
nickbro Posted October 14, 2014 Author Posted October 14, 2014 Will code some error handling tomorrow which will make the app continue on error 1
nickbro Posted October 15, 2014 Author Posted October 15, 2014 Here's a version with error loggingSIMSExchange.zip
