Hi,

 

I frequently attend Lan Parties, I normal attend smaller ones but I went to I52 (Multiplay Insomnia gaming festival) a few of weeks ago. I'm just curious if many fellow edugeekers are lanners!?

 

I will be going to Lanops next week :D

Love 'em, especially small ones with friends. I haven't gone to a big one, mainly because I've kind of fallen out of love with most competitive online games, and I'm carp at those I haven't. The best thing about small LANs is you can find a game nobody's played and roll with it. :) It's how I got my friends into Killing Floor and Serious Sam!

This is also how I got my friends into Serious Sam. I generally find once they encounter the kamikaze guys for the first time, they're hooked :D

Last one I went to was a crappy sports hall in Coventry but was good fun. Went to i5 before that, and some random one in Middlesborough. Quite a bus journey armed with a PC that was! (must have been about 14 years ago). Love doing it though, not practical any more with kids :|

I've mostly gone to closeknit LANs, such as small house parties and the ones organised by Warwick University Computer Society (got to love the week long LAN, always good :D)

I went to a few LANs back in the day. ESWC, WCG, and various others - mainly playing counter-strike. Went to some smaller ones too.

 

Went to some UK qualifiers at the Omega Sektor in Birmingham Omega Sektor - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia shame it closed really!

 

I remember this place! I went there for the City of Heroes event and it was a blast! Sad it closed down as I'd have definitely gone back for another visit. :(

I've never been to a lan party before, but I've just converted to gaming on a PC instead of a console and so far I'm loving it, if anyone has any suggestions for games please let me know as I would love to know some games that aren't the mainstream games and already taken over by the hardcore gamers :)

I keep meaning to play Serious Sam, I got them in a steam sale but have never got around to playing them :(

 

 

I've never been to a LAN event... :(

 

There is a first for everything :D loads of them around the country, I tend to go to two in Sheffield, they run every month or so, about 30-40 people :) Your welcome to join!

Haha thanks, my favourite thing about it so far is that I have found a website that sells games for 50% off, so brought diablo 3 last night to play with a work colleague. But loving the fact that the new assassins creed unity is only £23 for pre order :)

Now I just need to get rid of my bootcamped mac mini and get a decent computer :(

But... If you wait a year it'll be £20 with all the DLC. :p

Ye but I don't like waiting, and with the way games are now they will just release another dlc for about £30 as soon as I do that :p

I went back in 2006 or 2007 to i27, competed in the CSS tournament, came a highly disappointing 3rd. (Could easily have won if not for extenuating circumstances)

 

Used to be a counter strike addict, was pretty damn good at it at one point too. Not something i'd repeat given the chance to redo those years though.

 

I do love a good casual lan party though, had a couple of little ones with friends, many years ago, but sadly nothing in the past 9 years or so beside i27 :(

 

EDIT; I'd love to play TF2 at a small lan party, could see that being a great laugh with two teams of 8-10 :p

But all things considered, I didn't even know that there were lan partys out there and stuff for the average gamer, and they sound really fun. So thankyou edugeekers for teaching me something awesome :)

That's not to bad, I'm gonna get the game and the season pass for £25 :)

What other games can you suggest, preferably games over a year old so they don't cost a fortune :(

I have been playing a little arma 3 lately, not decided if I like it or not.

 

The main games I pay are:

Dayz

Heroes of Newerth

Battlefield

Warthunder

 

At Lans we tend to play anything, some of the common ones are :- Quake, Battlefield, TF2 and unreal tournament but we will always be trying different games.

 

I have so many games that I don't play, there is like 250 on my steam (Damn you humble bundle & Steam sales)

The Arkham games are good.

 

There's a collection of all 3 for about £25 in GAME [or it's that much on their site].

 

 

Darksiders is also a good game, the collection edition is about £25 on Amazon. [Darksiders 1, Darksiders 2, all DLC, both soundtracks and a digital comic].

 

I have so many games that I don't play, there is like 250 on my steam (Damn you humble bundle & Steam sales)
