I personally cant stand samsung phones generally so I would look around for another Android option. One thing to note is Apple is not allowing devs to use NFC (at least for now) which really limits its uses over Android. The iPhone 5S is only slightly slower cpu wise than the new 6 according to some benchmarks although there may be changes in firmware etc on release models.

 

I still have my iPhone 4 and it's doing very well. I am expecting iOS8 to be the end of it though.

 

iPhone 4 wont be getting iOS8, this is a bit of a problem for the EduGeek App as my dev device is a 4...

Nexus 5 (or newer when it comes) Or a Moto X off contract then Three mobile sim only unlimited data couldnt have a small screen myself after an S4 for over a year but the iPhone XL comes at a crazy cost with as always no storage expansion.

 

I'm also not a fan of these two articles from today:

So still no real NFC and they photoshop all their side on images to hide the camera bulge...I couldn't care less about that bit to be honest but why hide it?

I've gone off samsung. I had the galaxy note, whilst it was lovely to use, it was bogged down with samsung bloatware which I just couldn't be dealing with. I also had issues with the feel of the phone.

 

Moving to Sony, yes they have a bit of bloatware, but its stuff I actually use, like the music player, the tie in to PSN and such like.

 

As for iOS, I am intrigued by the new desktop version (Yosemite) and that looks like one I may use for a hackintosh, but otherwise, I will steer clear of the phones. They're just not big enough, and the batteries last nowhere near as long as my Sony one (playing the same games or browsing the same sites).

Fair enough for the current line but for the iPhone 6/6 Plus, 4.7" and 5.5" is broadly the same as most Android phones now and considering that there aren't any out in the wild at the moment, how can you say that the battery life isn't going to be any good?

I stuck CM on an old Galaxy Tab 10.1 that we had here because the stock install was driving me mad. The pen still worked but CM just treated it as another pointing device didn't have any of the fancy handwriting recognition stuff or extra functionality.

I meant the current itterations of the phones, not the new unreleased ones. Even then, I doubt they'd keep up with my phone. The 5s playing injustice gods among us goes from a 100% battery to 30% battery in 45 minutes, and goes to a 10% battery around an hour.

 

My xperia Z ultra (way bigger screen btw, so has to use more power), goes from 100% to 30% in a little over an hour, and to 10% in around 80 minutes.

Been disappointed with my s4 since i've had it, they dont seem to have the zip and fast performance id expect from a top of the range phone, my upgrade can't come quick enough. whether or not i get myself an iphone is still something i haven't decided, i may well get myself a cheapish android handset/go sim only on my s4, and just by myself a decent tablet device (again, probably android rather than an ipad...

Sony Xperia Z2 owner here and couldn't be happier. It's a corking phone!

If you rooted the tablet, couldn't you have frozen some of the Samsung bloatware apps using Titanium Backup and installed a different launcher (like Nova Launcher)? That should go some way to making it more bearable and you would still be able to use the S-Pen.

I'd advise neither. You can get good phones for much cheaper. The S4 and 5s are perfectly adequate. Is there a reason you want the latest ones? What is it that they offer that other phones don't?

OK...but the latest version of the software for both the S4 and iPhone 5s is the same as the S5 and iPhone 6...aside from a few minor hardware tweaks (which would be unnoticeable with all current software for the marketplaces), what does it really offer?

I put CM on mine and downloaded the SPen CM Add-On from the playstore it's free and it gives functionality back to the spen on CM.

Samsung phones have always been tacky to feel in the hand, this is coming from someone who has an s3, s4, s5 and Note 3 at some point, they didn't feel cheap just a bit plastic for my liking, I never liked HTC's choice of metal don't ask why it just doesn't feel nice to hold in my opinion. Samsung have since released the Alpha which is amazing quality when you hold it, that is built from metal and really feels nice and there new Note 4 and Note Edge apparently have had a lot of improvements on terms of design but I can't speak from experience with them.

 

I have been tempted by an iPhone 6 Plus, why you may ask, because to date the nicest phone I have ever held in my hand which really gives off 'quality' feel was the iPhone 4S. Although I have been majorly put off the new iPhone's due to the amount of people who are saying the case of the phone bends in your pocket and this has been proven.

 

Overall the only phone that feels nice in terms of design and quality, performs really well, has a decent price point and runs android my more preferred mobile operating system is my current phone. The OnePlus One.
