Satellite Pros in bulk here. The quality dipped a bit I thought when we brought in sets of C600-1LRs and 2KKs, but I like the newer C50-A-1E2s a lot. We've bought quite a few of the 1MX variety as well; the price is top drawer and means we can bang 120GB SSDs into them and still have change from £350.

Me too. We purchased about 10x Dell 13z laptops and on everyone of them, the battery would move a fraction of a millimetre, cutting the power. Dell support said that it was our fault.

 

@Blue_Cookeh, you mention TPM module. If this is a requirement, the cheapest laptop we've found with a TPM module is from Stone. Their support is excellent too, call them today and tomorrow you'll have an engineer onsite to fix.

Think many educational suppliers would do well to start offering a bare minimum of 3 year warranties to comply with typical procurement requirements and standards. A good warranty (backed up with good service if unfortunate enough to require it!) is one of the biggest selling points for many schools these days.

Out of my recent Dell orders I've now had 3 arrive faulty... x1 physical with a broken hinge (and thus eventually bezel)

We had ten Latitude 3330s with that problem (out of a total of fifteen). We certainly won't be buying any more of them!

after reading this, our 100 new staff laptops look to be going to whoever is giving the best freebies out at BETT next year (except for Toshiba who I wouldn't use again if they gave me a unicorn and xbox).

I will be showing this to our account manager now, who's trying to get me to go through Dell support to have this fixed. I'm rejecting the laptops and will probably be going with Lenovo T440s once I've had a couple of quotes back.

HP Probooks and Lenovo ThinkPads aren't bad quality - I usually recommend the HP ProBooks or Elitebooks with an i5 and likewise for the ThinkPads - usually the disk write speeds in them are pretty good too, but there's always the SSD route for Management staff (if they're that tech savvy!). Lenovo's are a bit more budget-friendly whereas you're looking at around £490+ for a nice performance ProBook/ EliteBook.

I had an unofficial quote on brand new Lenovo T440s from our usual all-other-bits-and-bobs-supplier @Millgate; and it seems like they're within our budget for the specs we're after. Going to be trying to get one or two to trial soon
