Graphics Card

Hi all,

 

I have a computer that needs to have 3 screens attached to it. I have a card in it (AMD Radeon HD 6570)

 

This card has DVi, VGA and HDMI. I tried attaching all 3 to the card, but have read that this won’t work as the HDMI and DVi use the same channel.

 

So I nicked another card from one of my computers up in the server room (AMD Radeon HD 4550) which has DVI and a display port

 

Now the computer recognises both, however the 4550 says "Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43)"

Now if i install the drivers for it and restart, it will come up as successfully installed. However the 6570 then comes up with the error above. It’s a vicious circle.

 

Any ideas? Am I doing something wrong?

What machine are you using?

 

If it has onboard graphics, you will be able to use two screens on the card and another screen through the onboard VGA. It's simple enough, just make sure onboard graphics remains enabled in BIOS while the card is connected.

My guess is that they require different versions of the same driver. If you can scavenge an nVidia card it should work. That's how I used to get 3 screens at home. If it's just to power anoyther screen and you're not going to be using it for graphically intensive stuff, any GPU will work that doesn't use the sam driver (in theory )

Its a custom built machine... i'll have to look a mboard to see model. Unfortunatly it has no onboard VGA

I had a feeling that would be a problem. it doesnt have to be powerful, i might go see what i can find.

Have you got a Display Port -> VGA adapter spare? I've got a 7770 that has the same problem, but can do 3 screens with one DVI to DVI, one DP to VGA adapter to VGA and one HDMI to HDMI.

Found a geforce card, installed and now all working!!!! Happy Days!
