Olliesaurus Posted July 14, 2014 Posted July 14, 2014 Does anyone have any recommendation in the way of fanless switches? 24 port ideally
Chris_ Posted July 15, 2014 Posted July 15, 2014 The 24 port HP 1810-24G is fanless, I think the 48 port model might have fans though.

We've got a large number of the 1810-48G's, many of our older ones have fans but we also have a few of a newer revision which is fanless. How it achieves that without overheating I've no idea.
seawolf Posted July 16, 2014 Posted July 16, 2014 HP 1810s are a good bet for fanless switches. They are relatively inexpensive models though and might not be suited to more critical applications or where you need layer 3 capabilities.
MrEprise Posted July 18, 2014 Posted July 18, 2014 I ought to mention that although I said that the newer 1810-48Gs are fanless, they're not. I was just speaking to our networking person who tells me it has just 1 fan but it is so inaudible, you'd be forgiven for thinking it's fanless.
Bananas Posted July 18, 2014 Posted July 18, 2014 The trouble is "inaudible" fans is they are until they go wrong so I guess that's partly why people are asking, not so much the noise issue but it's a moving part it will fail at some point. Many moons ago school I went to was running really slowly, I did some digging and turned out they were running a middle school on 2 24 port Cisco HUBS!! What was even worse is the fans had failed on both of them and they were just sat on top of each other in the cabinet not mounted in the rack at all. When I took them out to have a look I actually burnt my hand on one
