synaesthesia Posted July 13, 2014 Posted July 13, 2014 This will hardly come as a surprise to anyone that knows what EA is capable of, but it appears as if they've proven Origin is being used to spy on everything done on your computers. EA is Spying on You by File Snoopping with the Origin Client - Official Investigation Begins Love the way the Origin/EA employee tried to act surprised. EA really are the lowest of the low. (Yes, fully aware other technologies do similar...)
rich_tech Posted July 14, 2014 Posted July 14, 2014 Good games, absolutely shocking ethics though and a completely scummy company
Garacesh Posted July 14, 2014 Posted July 14, 2014 Does not surprise me. Not in the slightest. I have Origin for the Origin Humble Bundle games and the Mass Effect trilogy, but truth be told I haven't launched it in months.
localzuk Posted July 14, 2014 Posted July 14, 2014 People have known about this for a couple of years - since they added that rather snoopy clause to the Ts&Cs. Their investigation is going to be long and hard, walking down the corridor to their data mining department...
Grey-gear Posted July 14, 2014 Posted July 14, 2014 If this is true, I'm glad I just said no to origin. Brings in to question what other software an avarge user has on their computer does this?
featured_spectre Posted July 14, 2014 Posted July 14, 2014 I have it for BF4, but I haven't launched it since at least February. I haven't updated it since then either (despite it telling me too every time I boot up). I've removed it from the startup tasks yet it still manages to tell me it needs to be updated!
chazzy2501 Posted July 14, 2014 Posted July 14, 2014 I've refused to install Origin when I read the T&Cs, So I've never been able to play Crysis 3
JRowley Posted July 14, 2014 Posted July 14, 2014 Their T&C have contained this since the launch of the BETA client, it was a big deal years ago. I am not surprised in the slightest that they decided to act on it. A pathetic excuse of a company only interested in pushing profit margins. More than happy to Spy in order to sell marketing information no doubt to third parties and for their own uses, and more than happy to completely ruin any franchise in the pursuit of profit.
