Jobos Posted June 24, 2014 Posted June 24, 2014 We've been given a few second hand smart S680 and SB660 (77" and 64") boards and we're looking at installing a couple over the summer. I would like to use a casio projector owing to the low maintenance and long life but I'm not sure which model would be best suited. As we are fitting the board and projector ourselves should we would be looking at the short or ultra short throw models?

Normal ceiling mount wise, the Casio XJ-M140 is the best model - the A are noisier and more prone to overheating as they're so slim, and the next bump up in brightness costs a silly amount of money. The M140s are in the sweet spot for performance/price.

Yeah... at that price, I think I'll continue pretending they don't exist. We got some NEC UM280w UST projectors recently. Massive things, looked like a right pain to mount (paid a contractor ) but the image is lovely. 2800 lumens 2 foot from the board, magic.
Cablers_JonPaul Posted June 25, 2014 Posted June 25, 2014 (edited) Whats your budget? The Epson EB 570 is one we bundle with many of the interactive white boards we install now. EB-570 - Epson The NEC's are pretty good as well. The best thing about Epson and NEC are the education 3yr de installation/ re installation warranties. Both companies are very good at service and honoring their obligations. I would check first that if installing them yourself it wont affect the warranty in any way. They sometimes stipulate that only certified installers carry out installations.(Not always) Although UST projectors can be a little fiddly to set up its not impossible to do a great job on them yourself providing you have installed a few short throws in the past. localzuk Posted June 25, 2014 Posted June 25, 2014 I'd say your best bet would be one of the "Signature" models. The slimline models have died a few times for us - they seem to get very hot and because there's little space in them they seem to overheat. The model you want is whatever brightness you need, and whatever resolution you want to project, and whether you want wireless capability.

I do have a nice Casio slim line DLP above me in the office which we use. Its started getting a little noisy of late but its too good to swap out yet. I hate it when my pictures do that! speckytecky Posted June 28, 2014 Posted June 28, 2014 (edited) Saw a demo of one of the new Epson short throws recently - seems to tick all the boxes and certainly it will be what we order next time. Don't know where in the UK you are but if you want any projectors, SmartBoards or AV kit fitted in this area (I'm in Wiltshire) I can recommend an excellent chap based in Newbury. He even re-fits installs others have bodied up! PM me if you want his details. One of my suppliers could do them for somewhere nearer £1000 when I enquired. When you factor in the warranty, very low maintenance and power savings I'd say they work out around the same if not better than the Epson UST projectors. From what I understand the uptake has been very slow and Casio are keep to get more out there.

southhamster Posted June 28, 2014 Posted June 28, 2014 Installed 4 epson eb470 ust projectors with our 2 caretakers. Much easier than ceiling mount and as long as you use the supplied template fairly easy to fit. The only problem we found is what to do with the extra long cabling if replacing existing long throw units, but our friend Mr. Trunking is great at hiding it all.
timbo343 Posted June 29, 2014 Posted June 29, 2014 (edited) Starting to put in X20s into our place after years and years of NECs. We have put 2 in already (they replaced NEC VT37) and amazed by the image quality. We were the converted when we bought a X11. The brightness and clarity of it was outstanding for the price. Also with all the different inputs was a plus. Was convienced by the W18s but budget wouldnt let be buy 6 or 7 of them. We have some NEC NP200 projectors which have started to get the white dots on due to the - forgot the name of the chip - which controls thr tiny mirrors in the projectors. Cost to replace on of these chips, £500… waiting to replace this projector so we can take it apart and see how easy it is to replace this chip. Edited June 29, 2014 by timbo343
